As a selected representative from Ondo State, I was honored to participate in the Youth Digital Democracy Dialogue.

I learnt from experts, networked with like-minded individuals, and made recommendations for promoting inclusiveness in my local community.

I also shared my work with @osmdmovement2024 which advocates for Good Governance, Youth Empowerment, and Civic Participation. Together, we can shape the future of democratic governance in Nigeria.

Successful Akoko Citizens Engage Townhall Hosted in Oka Akoko

Last Friday, I had the privilege of hosting the Akoko Citizens Engage Townhall engagement at Oka Akoko as part of the YIAGA Africa Turnup democracy initiative. This event brought together critical stakeholders from civil society organizations, traditional and community leaders to facilitate a dialogue between the citizens of Akoko Southwest Constituency 1 and their representative, Hon Raymond Oluwatoyin Daodu, who serves as the ODHA Deputy Minority Leader.

During the engagement, Hon Raymond Oluwatoyin Daodu was able to address the concerns and issues raised by his constituents, demonstrating his commitment to advocating for their needs and working towards solutions.
The event provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue and interaction between the community and their representative and also Oka Akoko citizens pledge to vote in the forthcoming Ondo State gubernatorial elections.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to YIAGA AFRICA and UK International Development for their support in making this project a success. Their contribution played a significant role in facilitating this important event and promoting citizen engagement in the democratic process.

Today,we had a productive visit to the INEC Resident Commissioner Office in Akure.
We met with the Head of the Voters Education Department, who provided valuable insights into the successes and challenges of the commission in voters’ engagement and education.
We received guidance on key focus areas for our project. Despite the absence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, the HOD expressed commitment to voters’ engagement in Akoko, pledged to attend our upcoming townhall, and offered advice for our initiative.
Our FOI request is pending, and we remain patient and optimistic about the process.

I attended the West Africa Regional Conference organized by Student's For Liberty Africa in Abuja.
The conference had distinguished speakers such as Samson Itodo of YIAGA Africa, First Baba Isa, Azeezat Yishawu, and Abiye Briggs who shared valuable insights on mentorship, knowledge seeking, youth inclusion, capacity building, and pushing oneself beyond limits.
This event provided me with fresh information, new networks, and exciting prospects.
I am eager to apply all I have learned towards driving positive change in my community.

Should Social Movements Negotiate?

Reflections on social movements and organizing in Africa

According to Samson Itodo, there's no consensus to whether social movements want to negotiate with government.
Negotiation is a tool used for Community Organizing. Negotiation is a discussion that reaches to an agreement to compel negotiation and there is one thing a Community Organizer needs and this is POWER.
To negotiate you need to build power through:

• Attention
• Call for negotiation
• Call for protest

As a community organizer, ones duty is to remind them of the cost it would give them if they do not negotiate.

Must we NEGOTIATE as Community Organizers

•It comes with the opportunity to get a good deal
• It opens doors where previously closed

Downsides of negotiation

•Movements stand the risk of losing momentum
•firstly you build POWER and then you gain momentum

At what point should we NEGOTIATE?

•When 2 different parties have different ideas
•When there is a common ground

Also, when the power scale has shifted to one's end, negotiation can occur

Be prepared, build that power then NEGOTIATE

Build MOMENTUM!!!

PS: On this very day we were given an assignment the previous day to present for or against : Should social movements negotiate and my team was Amandla where we opposed the motion,it was an intense one and at the end the other team won but we all learnt something at the end.
I'm glad to share part of my story as a community organizer here.

Last Saturday, I had the privilege of accepting an invitation to speak at the Youth 4 SDGs Ambassador Program.

The topic of my presentation was Effective Communication and Public Speaking. This event allowed me to impart my knowledge to young individuals and share my story within the civic space. As a Youth/SDGs Advocate and community organizer, this event was an opportunity for me to give back to the younger generation and encourage them to get involved in making a change.

The session was incredibly interactive, and I had a fantastic time. I'd like to extend my gratitude to Rolan Foundation for making this occasion possible. Remember, we are never too young to make a difference; let's keep striving towards the #sdgs2030
