Join us in November for a 3 Day Mixed Media Portrait Drawing Workshop with the wonderful Chelsea Bard! This will be the final workshop of the year and final class of all in our current beautiful studio - as we will be moving studios in the new year. Help us end this season on a warm note.

Working with a model from life, students will hone their skills of accurate observation and conceptual knowledge to represent nature. Materials to be discussed and utilized will include charcoal, graphite, earth pigment pastels and pencils, chalk, and gouache paint. Students may select among this list to develop material relationships in the work that they feel most attracted to.

More info and registration at link in bio and below.

Finally got a scan of this drawing from a long pose open figure session at @aliafineartstudios earlier this year. I've really been loving figure "painting" with highlighters and pen. Drawn inside my 11x14 mixed media sketchbook.

Day 1 in Samantha Haring’s class on Color and Light in Raleigh NC @aliafineartstudios Today we learned how the color of the light source affects the colors in the image. A bit mind boggling at first — but Samantha is an amazing teacher! Luckily we have 2 more days to try and get it. Notice how I’m showing you my sketch but not my painting. It was awful. 😢 I learned SO MUCH today!

Samantha Haring returns to Alia Fine Art Studios in just 2 weeks to teach a 3 Day Color & Light Workshop. This one will challenge your preconceptions of color! Understanding color begins with understanding light: its temperature, its tone, its emotional resonance. By observing artificially colored light on neutral objects, we will play with the differences between what we expect to see and what we actually perceive. @samantha.haring

Just a few spots left. More info and registration at link in bio.
