Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Day.
It’s always an interesting day for me. A few years ago, I would throw watch parties and tune into Light Up MBC surrounded by friends. A couple of years later @amyfightscancer aka @amysteffelohmann and I would drive all over SoCal chasing pink, green, and teal lights.

Later, I got so busy living that I sometimes forgot what day it even was.

This year was different. It’s been such a trying year for me on the MBC front that I sat on my couch and watched Light Up MBC with my 11 y/o daughter and just cried. I was angry. I was sad. I was broken.

I don’t think she noticed my tears, though it wouldn’t have been a bad thing if she had. Tonight, she made a special effort to hug and kiss me goodnight. I suppose she’s old enough to get it all now, which is why I let her watch in the first place.

We were inspired by Tami @eaglemethod, as always, and her beautiful show honoring all the warriors still fighting and all the hope that remains. I was happy to see my MBC sisters @theanniebond and @katecrawmama shining bright.

But I’m still mad. I still miss those who were brutally taken much too soon by MBC.

💚💗💙 Save the date 3/14/26 for @metgalascv with @cancerculture next year so we can do something about this.

I miss you, Amy. 💔 I know if you were here, I’d never be alone on this day—and we’d be making big things happen. 😞

With all of the turmoil going on in the world today, I imagine we can all appreciate how precious and fleeting life is. We get to relish in
each breath we take and every moment that makes up this crazy journey we call LIFE!

Today is metastatic breast cancer day. Ironically, today is the one year anniversary of the MBC diagnosis of my high school friend and sister, Amy Steffe Lohmann. Amy only got 10 months with this predatory disease. Merely four days prior to her diagnosis, Amy was as beautiful and vivacious as ever on stage as she chaired the MetGala SCV. She was selflessly advocating for a disease that she did not even think that she had.

This disease is lonely. At many times I have felt alone in my journey, alone in my thoughts, alone in the world. I reconnected with Amy. She made me feel alive in my disease, validated in my inclination to advocacy; she became my partner. My match. In all areas and all fears and all things fabulous. The kids, the football mom dreams, the golden retrievers, the wish to work and volunteer and be all things for all people. The wish to live and raise children and be grandmas. We shared it all. We shared clothes and shared food and drinks and stayed up all night watching Netflix and working on our futures. Whatever they would hold.

No one is alone. Amy’s wish was for every survivor to feel that he or she is never alone. You matter. Every single person mattered to Amy. She was relentless in her work, generous in her time and a true giver. She wanted every last person to feel seen and heard and taken care of. Amy was a one in a million. She was a unicorn + zebra. She was all of it. I am lost without her. Yet, because of her, I have a reason to keep fighting. Amy was a badass. She rocked every role she ever had and it is no surprise that her favorite role was Mom to Ryan and Allie. Amy- you are missed and we will go on in your honor and never ever say goodbye. #smallcellneuroendocrinecarcinoma #thisismbc #metgalascv #metavivor #mbc
