Did you know you’re allowed to take space?

They say music is only music because of the space in between beats. You can’t hear the next tone without a silent interlude otherwise it’s just noise.

The under currents of our emotional reality live in the quiet moments. They whisper to us when we’re distracting ourselves with the next thing.

If we don’t offer ourselves time to ‘be with’, we live our lives disconnected from what’s ultimately driving our next action.

What we don’t take time to transmute and feel, risks bleeding into the next conversation, or relationship.

The ache is real, the whispers too, but taking time to find stillness and hear what they’re trying to say?

That’s a choice.

To slow down and really listen. So as to arrive more clearly, anchored in your day to day reality.

You might tell yourself that you don’t have time to take a beat, but you do, and trust me your friends, family and work colleagues will thank you.

Wow, what a weekend.

Primal Harvest Gathering, was an incredible coming together of experts, participants hungry to learn and extraordinary musical talent.

Together we felt the ancestral depth and communion of what it means to share time and space with the land, eat locally sourced and organic food and sit by the fire.

For many of us we arrive home with both love and grief in our hearts. Love for the depth of care we felt being mutually held in @sheepdrove space together, and grief that these spaces that combine community and land learning are not more common place. As we return to our everyday lives.

The longing to learn and return to the land, is felt strongly in our hearts and we miss you already.

If you are home and still feel drawn to continue learning we’ve launched Primal Skills, a platform to support ancestral learning for modern times, comment SKILLS, to learn and join us in-person workshops and gatherings seasonally.

We’ll send you a message, with more information about how to continue to weave this fabric at home and in your own lives.

With a lot of love in our hearts, we are connected, with our feet on the soil, and our hearts in our hands

Love, Primal

Can I practice what I preach?

Right now I’m in the deep throes of my regenerative mission led purpose. Stewarding primal gathering to bring 150 people together to learn and tend to land and this the moment where I could lose my ground.

I’d be lying if I said there weren’t moments, but I’ve been blessed with good people around me, to reflect back the impact that has when I do.

I am participatory in my experience. I have agency.

If I want this to be stressful it could be. If I wanted to self sacrifice and cause my body harm out of “convenience” then this would be the moment.

But I’m choosing not to. I’m holding myself accountable, taking steps back and really looking at what truly serves the mission, my team, and ultimately land, of which I’ve dedicated 8 years to protecting.

And that’s me in right relationship and health, towards myself, @primalgathering that I’m creating and all those who surround me who benefit far from me when I flourish.

Keeping it real, it’s not easy when the propensity to over extend is rife. But health is our birth right, and I want to be a living example of a regenerative gathering that’s fully embodied.

How do you hold yourself accountable?

$We are all remembering. That is my honest answer to the question I get asked most, which is what business a white woman has teaching plant medicine on Maya land. Eight years at this lake and what I keep landing on is this. The knowledge here never died. It is alive in the market on Friday, in the kitchens, in the hands of the Nanas who carry it. And colonization still took something from every one of us. It took different things in different measures and it left almost nobody whole. The Kaqchikel are remembering too. Remembering does not happen to only one side of a wound. So we do not teach this as a lineage we own. We teach from a vitalist perspective, which means we go looking for the through lines. The old European humoral systems, what the Nanas know about a plant from growing up beside it, the energetics carried in a dozen other traditions that never met each other. Set them side by side and they are all reading the same earth and the same cosmic energies. The through lines are not hard to find once you stop treating each tradition as a sealed room. Learn plants this way and something shifts. You are not memorizing constituents, not running this herb for that condition. It becomes embodied. It becomes language-like. You are reading the language of your own body and the language of the plant, and you find relationship with this planet somewhere in the middle of that. Which does something spectacular to the psyche. Students come here fractured, because the world has never been more fractured, and what they do over those weeks is reweave themselves. You will learn practical herbalism. You will leave with real skills to offer your community. What it will do to your heart and soul, only Gaia knows. Foundations of Herbal Medicine. March 13 - 19 2027. Tzununá, Guatemala. Tell me what you are remembering. I read all of them.$
