For six hours, Akshay @alt.j1702 selflessly offered his body to the room, without resistance or struggle. The room was pin-drop silent while people stepped on him, drew on him, poured liquids on him, tied him up, and moved his body like a marionette puppet.

There is something deeply sensual about that kind of surrender. And something humbling about watching a body become a canvas on the floor of an art gallery. Performance art breaks down barriers in intimate and emotional ways that can only be felt in unscripted, unrepeatable moments.

Join Carpe Arte and Eighty Days on an Art Hop led by artist Al-Qawi Nanavati

We have a V special Art Night Thursday this month.

Reason no 1, it is an in person walk, led by
Al-Qawi Nanavati ❤️ @alqawi.nanavati
Which means you get a very fun guided art hop, introductions to the artists who are present and a few walkthroughs.

And reason no 2, it’s a collaboration with Eighty days @theeightydays - a travel planner app that takes your scattered travel notes, Instagram reels, WhatsApp forwards, blogs, or Google Maps and pins them into a clean, unified map itinerary.

You can visit the link in our bio to follow this month’s route on the app.

We kickstart the walk at Muziris Contemporary for the ongoing solo show ‘Stick No Bills’ by Guesswho.

In the same building, we drop by APRE Art House for the opening of ‘Marcescence of a Restless Mind’ showcasing the work of various artists.

Then we hop across the road to Anupa Mehta Contemporary Art for the preview of ‘Amores/ Loves’ by Mexican artist Jose Zendejas Foyo.

We then make our way to Project 88 for the recently opened solo show ‘Badly Remembered Things’ by Sarnath Banerjee.

From here we will walk down to Gallery Maskara for the on going show by Lakshmi Nivas Collection ‘ The Immortality of Soil’

Post which we will pop in to Sakshi Gallery for the preview of Rekha Rodwittya’s solo show ‘Home is wherever you are’.

We end the evening at Chemould CoLab with Vinita Mungi who will take us through ‘gardens of imagination’ her two person show with Hasmukh Makwana.

The route is mapped out on Eighty Days, you can download it via the link in our bio.

We will be following the schedule so join wherever you can at the time mentioned.

As always, say hello to the artists you meet and feel free to ask them or the gallery folks and questions you have about the art.

And don’t forget to tag us in your stories and posts, we love seeing all the art that’s making you stop and stare.

🖼️ Art Night Thursday is my favorite night of the month because all the galleries in Mumbai stay open late! These are a few of my favorite pieces from September 10th. It’s impossible to see everything in one night, but this time I managed to hit 9 galleries in 3 hours. You still have time to catch these exhibitions if you’re feeling inspired.

💕 The pieces I would add to my collection in a heartbeat are the giraffe and the woman on a bike by @guesswhostreetart, found at @muziriscontemporary. If only they were smaller...

🗨️ Which piece do you fancy most?
🌟 Mark your calendars now, the next Art Night Thursday is October 8th!

If you are in Mumbai do visit the @APRE art house in Colaba. 100% Sustainable brings together many artists and their expression of sustainability.

For me sustainability finds its solace with limited means and the intelligence of the frugal. Limiting means is widely misunderstood and mis represented. To limit ones need is the highest form of intelligence.

We have been systematically educated out of sustainable practices and those who do live by are heckled and now face mass evacuation from their humble forest homes, biodivers landscape because they don't give in to greed and ruthless development. They are the last humans with ecological knowledge like none other.

Some glimpses from the opening of “100% Sustainable™” at APRE Art House, Mumbai.

It was truly an amazing experience being part of this exhibition. APRE Art House is a beautiful space, and the entire show has been curated with great thought and sensitivity.

Grateful to APRE Art House, Prerna ma'am and the entire team for this wonderful opportunity and experience. Lots of thanks! ✨
