Flashback Friday! The dreaded self-portrait. In all my years studying photography, this was the only assignment I never turned in. ⁠
Each student was to shoot a whole roll of film of themselves (obviously this was pre-digital age). I set up the camera on a chair and had my cousin press the shutter. I was nervous and felt awkward in front of the camera. I even made my cousin join me in some of the pictures because I didn't like the focus to be on me alone.⁠

When I developed the roll...I was unhappy with the way it turned out. I did develop a print (not this one) but I never turned it in. ⁠

Fast forward to today. I still don't feel comfortable in front of the camera. And because of that, I'm conscious that others may feel the same way. So, I always aim to make my subjects feel great and confident in front of my camera, because I believe everyone should #existinphotos⁠
(By the way, I'm drinking mate in the image. If you know me you understand why it's the perfect prop for my self-portrait.) ⁠
