Since I am already doing updates this week, here is another one. Currently 37 weeks pregnant and on my first official week of maternity leave! Having a baby is very unrelated to the closing of the studio, they just happened to have similar due dates. I haven’t really updated here the last few years because in addition to the internet feeling like a difficult place to show up in, I have also been wonderfully busy with work. I’m am excited to hopefully have some time over the next few months to share some of the incredible projects and clients I have been shooting for of late! Will be back to working regularly in January! Very grateful to my wonderful friend @atarah for taking these beautiful maternity portraits of me. Grateful to all of my clients who didn’t bat an eye at me showing up to set very pregnant and continued to consider me capable and worth hiring at 9 months pregnant. Grateful to all of my lovely assistants who did their usual jobs but also made sure I was extra hydrated. Very grateful to my body for continuing to work 12hr days and be capable of hauling photography gear all over the place. And especially grateful to my sweet husband who packed me extra snacks, went to every appointment, had dinner waiting after every long day on set, and let me fall asleep halfway through every movie without complaint.

After nearly a decade, we have decided to close The Atrium. Back in early 2017, after only a year and half of living in New York, we opened our first little photo studio. We wanted a space that we could afford to create in as young photographers just starting out, and when we couldn’t find that - we decided to make it ourselves. We were passionate about creating community and renting the space to our peers so they too could have a place they could afford and felt proud to bring a client to. What we got in return was so much more than just a studio. We got a creative home that for years raised us up in so many ways. We got to see the incredible impact on our own careers and that of our peers. We got the experience of building a business from the ground up. And we got to do all of it together, as best friends. Now, it’s time to close the chapter on the space itself. We’re redirecting the energy that went into running a rental studio back into our own work, our own projects, and our own lives. The Atrium was never just about the walls. It was about what happened inside them, and what we built together. So even though the studio is closed, we’re still here. Still shooting. Still building. Still best friends. From the friends who helped us paint our first 600 sqft space off the Morgan L, to every single person who ever walked through the doors of our 2,500 sqft space in Ridgewood — we thank you deeply. It took a village and we thank you for being part of ours. 🤍

WEATHERED - by Atarah Atkinson, 2025 Walking through Rome, you learn quickly that the most extraordinary things are rarely the ones announcing themselves. This staircase I came across on foot — what appeared to be the back entrance to a private estate — was not asking to be looked at. Three marble steps lead to a large patiniad iron gate, and beyond it, more stairs continue upward past walls of old plaster that has begun to peel back, revealing the layers of material and time beneath. Dried leaves had gathered and cascaded around the steps, unhurried, as though they belonged there. I stood there bearing witness because it felt like accidentally seeing something true about a place; so I took a deep breath, settled my Hasselblad and found the frame — one snap later I continued on my way. 
Weathered sits with the idea that deterioration and improvement are not opposites. What aging takes away in precision it returns in depth — in the plaster that peels to reveal what it was made of, in the gate that has darkened over decades into something richer than its original finish, in the leaves that have settled into the composition as naturally as if they were placed. The archival giclée print is held in a vintage wood frame with gold accents, aged itself, holding an image that asks us to reconsider what we mean when we call something ruined.
