Honestly, I only made this video for me and my buds. IF you watch the whole thing, wow you’re a bud. Anyway, here’s my synopsis of a week at a very magical place. We cooked 10 meals in 4 days. We hiked. We snuck into demolition derby. We stayed up late. We woke up early. This was my favorite vacation of all time. I live to cook and I love to cook. Doing it with three powerfully talented women was the icing on top. This is what girl magic looks like.

Deep Springs was an incredible experience and I will gladly tell you more if you reach out. To my baddie friends - thank you. 🙏 iykyk.

It’s pretty clear by my stories that I’ve run to the desert. 🌵 a little background… a few months ago @aubreyds @k_brown12 @sarahsavannahknight invited me to tag along to Sarah’s workplace at Deep Springs College. Running 1,000 mph, I asked no questions and just booked tickets to fly to the west coast for a vague concept of cooking for an alumni weekend.

As someone who spent time in Colorado, the quiet and vastness of high altitude living surrounded by mountains is always a special treat. Little did I know, it’s our smallest college in the nation with a student population of 28. The students are self governing, the meals are cooked by the students with leadership from Sarah, and the classes are deeply cognitive with a huge focus on intention. They ranch, they cowboy, they raise their own food.

Here’s a little glimpse at the absolute serenity this week has already brought.

Pic 1: eggplant for baba ganoush. PS, garlic that you grow is spicy.
Pic 2: one of our lunches with fresh baked bread and various items from the garden.
Pic 3: a fennel bulb propagation over the handsink
Pic 4: the tools and dry goods for the students in the beautiful kitchen
Pic 5: cheese made by a student with their dairy
Pic 6: baguettes in production
Pic 7: the said spicy garlic
Pic 8: their cookbook collection

Anyway, happy birthday Sarah. You’ve always been an inspiration to me and learning more about your current life is amazing. I am so unbelievably blessed to have the people in my life. They’re always right where they need to be to make me stop and enjoy the moment.
