A closer look at the Combe Martin pool coming together.

Selecting the pool tile has been a very hands on process. Samples laid out, moved around, submerged in water, viewed in different light and compared against the surrounding materials time and time again.

A pool tile can look entirely different once underwater, so this is not a decision we make from a sample board alone. We consider how the colour shifts throughout the day, the tone it creates in the water and how it sits alongside the stone, planting and architecture.

The intention has always been for the pool to feel like a body of water within the garden, rather than a separate element.

A considered process, now coming to life tile by tile.

COMBE MARTIN | Pool Tile Installation.

I love watching the hands on side of the process. The care, patience and craftsmanship that goes into laying every single tile is incredible.

Working with Laguna Pools to bring this part of Combe Martin to life has been such a rewarding process, and seeing it at this stage makes me very excited for what is still to come.

I am still on such a high from this day.

Seeing these beautiful established trees find their place around the pool has completely transformed the feeling of Combe Martin. The scale, the softness, the way they frame the architecture. Suddenly, the garden we have been imagining for so long is becoming a reality.

A few more moments from a very muddy, very cold, but incredibly special day.

COMBE MARTIN | Tree Day.

I don’t think I have ever been quite so happy on a building site.

The weather was absolutely brutal. Freezing cold, pouring rain, mud everywhere, and yet I could barely contain my excitement.

Walking onto site and seeing these magnificent trees arriving, watching the @wilmark.lc team carry them into position through the mud, was one of those moments I will never forget.

We have spent so long imagining how this garden would feel, how the trees would frame the house, soften the architecture and create these beautiful spaces around our home. And suddenly, standing there in the rain, I could see it all coming together.

There is something incredibly emotional about seeing a vision you have carried in your head for so long become a reality, especially when it is your own home.

I have such admiration for the incredible team at @wilmark.lc, who worked tirelessly in the most challenging conditions, and @plume__studio, whose beautiful vision for the landscape is finally taking shape.

I honestly didn’t want the day to end. Despite the cold, the rain and the mud, I was completely in my element.

One of my happiest days at Combe Martin so far.

Recently at KWD.

A glimpse into life in and out of the studio. There is so much happening behind the scenes at the moment, and I love seeing projects at every different stage of their story.

Days have been moving between the studio, site visits, time at Combe Martin, emerging projects beginning to take shape and the final details of some very special homes we have recently completed and cannot wait to share.

For me, these moments are such an important part of the design process. Seeing an idea move from materials on the studio table to something you can walk through, touch and experience never loses its magic.

And, as always, it is the details that I find myself coming back to. Beautiful materials, unexpected colour, craftsmanship and those small decisions that give a home its personality.

A little of what we’ve been seeing, making and loving lately at KWD.

The landscape at Combe Martin is entering a new chapter, with @laguna_pools officially breaking ground on the pool.

Conceived to read more as a water feature within the landscape than a traditional swimming pool, its placement, proportions and materiality have all been carefully considered to allow it to sit quietly within the garden.

Working closely with @plume__studio the design takes its cues from the home’s Interwar architecture, a period in which gardens were increasingly conceived as spaces in their own right. The landscape has been designed to soften the architecture, creating a gentler transition between the home and surrounding garden.

A significant milestone on site, and an exciting glimpse of what’s to come.

Inside KWD.

The foundation of every successful interior lies in the decisions made before completion.

Material selections, space planning, detailing and supplier collaboration all play an essential role in shaping the final outcome of a KWD home.

A considered design process allows each element to work together seamlessly, creating spaces that are both beautiful and enduring.

COMBE MARTIN | Materiality matters.

For the Combe Martin Primary Suite, the palette was intentionally selected to sit quietly alongside the ocean beyond. Rather than competing with the outlook, the stone reflects its soft blue-grey tones, allowing the landscape to become part of the interior.

One of the qualities I love most about working with natural stone is that no two slabs are ever the same. The movement and markings are the result of geological forces acting over millions of years, as tectonic activity, heat and mineral deposits shape each piece into something entirely unique.

Understanding these natural characteristics is an important part of the selection process. It’s never simply about choosing a colour, but considering the movement, scale and individuality of each slab, and how it will contribute to the overall experience of the space.
