POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This summer, a group of us spent a week in silence together on our annual Shevet retreat for young adults. We sat, walked, ate slowly, sang, and remembered what it feels like to be fully present in our bodies and hearts with ourselves and one another. 🌿

Thank you to everyone who came and made it what it was.

If you’ve been missing that feeling (or never got to have it), come sit with us online on Sunday, Oct 25 for our Shevet daylong retreat, Rest, Return, Honor. It’s a day to slow down, come back to your practice, and be in community from wherever you are.

All are welcome, come as you are! Link in bio. ✨

CHAVAYA ‘26 @chavayafestival

Read my reflection on being Jewish during this time on my blog - link in bio.

___

I have sat in over 25 ayahuasca ceremonies, gone to the jungle in Peru, traversed across Central Mexico with the Wixárika people, and had a near-death experience.

And not one of those experiences feels as potent as what I experienced this last weekend.

I have no words for the magnitude of what just transpired.
If you know, you know.

I am blown away by the magic that I not only experienced, but had an enormous hand in creating as one of the lead producers of Chavaya Festival.

It is such an honor to stand beside so many amazing producers, visionaries, artists, teachers, musicians, and community members to create this magical portal. @thegroovyjew @helenaluvv @wrldthrumylens @joshspector6 @linds.levine to name a few.

This was the culmination of ten years of event production experience, and by far the biggest event I’ve ever produced.

This took everything. Spiritually. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. Relationally. Physiologically.
I feel so empty and so full all at the same time.
I feel like a bomb just went off, and I’m sitting in the aftershock. A bomb of love and magic and presence and beauty. The ripples have touched so many lives and will continue to do so.
It took all of me. And all of me was present. Including my shadow.

You can’t do something of this magnitude without all of your person being present. If shadow wasn’t present, it wouldn’t be whole and complete.

What this really taught me is that God is all of it.
If you’re going to put all of you into something, all of you is going to show up. The good. The great. The bad. The ugly. The brilliance. The mistakes. The tenderness. The ego. The fear. The love. All of it.

People will judge us for the ways we showed up well, the ways we didn’t, the jokes that didn’t land, the things we said, the places where we fell short.

“Forget your perfect offering. Ring the bells that you will ring.”
People all over the world are hearing this bell.
And it is such an honor to ring it.
Now back to life.

Not what you usually see in the media. 🕊️

We didn’t think a Jewish festival could feel like this.

Earth-based. Ecstatic. Thousands of years old.

Chavaya means “experience.”

This is what it looked like.

What happens when sacred learning meets artistic expression?

Throughout Smicha Week, artist Rebecca Schisler transformed teachings, chants, conversations, and moments of connection into visual reflections of the week. Each piece became more than an illustration. It became another way of listening, another way of praying, another way of remembering.

In Jewish Renewal, creativity is not separate from spiritual practice. It is one of the many ways we encounter the sacred, alongside study, chant, ritual, community, and reflection.

Thank you, Rebecca, for helping us see Smicha Week through a different lens and for reminding us that art can become a doorway into the holy.

ꕥ A little smattering of Bay Area gathering magic from the past year: friends, creativity, learning, seasonal portals, snacks, symbols, and experiments in making room for wonder.

ꕥ I keep thinking about Carolyn Elliott’s definition of magic as active participation in synchronicity. She talks about magic as creating dense, symbolic, embodied experiences that reality can answer back to.

ꕥ That’s what I love about rituals, salons, workshops, retreats, immersive experiences, & all the hybrid forms in between. They let us design for devotion with just enough structure to play inside.

ꕥ The best rituals move beyond wishes whispered into the void. They involve playing with archetypes, images, songs, movements, timing, beauty, material objects, community & a willingness to experiment. And ofc not be too SERIOUS.

ꕥ I love co-creating spaces where people can feel more alive, connected, enchanted, honest, and brave, where we get to improvise meaning together with our bodies, stories, ancestors, dreams, senses, songs, and psychadelic absurdity.
