The new 30. Age is a number, yes, but not the number that counts most in projecting an NFL player’s performance and health sustainability.

We train top speed infrequently (this is clearly not top speed, especially given David’s ability to hold it for so long), but the myth of age-related output decline gets shattered in an objective setting such as this.

The top linear velocity by a running back in the 2021 NFL season was 22.1 mph (Jonathan Taylor). Keep in mind that “in -game” top speed is touched for less than a second in most cases.

Acknowledging that treadmill kinematics differ slightly from ground-based sprinting, this is an incredibly impressive display at 220 pounds.

In many arenas, 30 years old is considered physical peak. With modern training practices and recovery sciences having advanced, do we need to reconsider our view of age in the NFL?
