The adventure of a liftetime. Let’s do it again next year.

Berlin was not as much about the run for me as I thought it would be. I signed up to run the marathon intending to run the race of my life. The training was going great, and 4 weeks before race day, I had no doubt it would be a success.

Then I got sick. Without going into specifics, it completely took me out for the two most important weeks of training. It affected me on race day and it will continue to affect my training for another couple of weeks.

Before leaving on the trip, I was in a whole different mental state that what I would have been if I were going to race at full strength. The trip became about enjoying an adventure with friends and exploring one of the coolest cities on earth.

I still gave it all I had on the day. It resulted in a 2:56 instead of at 2:39, but I was happy knowing I tried my hardest.

Shutout to the underdogs who crushed their races, and especially the ones back home cheering us on in the middle of the night

I did not come away from Berlin with a PR, but memories that will last a lifetime.

Onto Boston
