😁COME ONE COME ALL!😁

I’m hosting a free private exhibition viewing for the new orleans black girl environmentalist hub @bgenolahub and friends!!! 🤩 If you’re a black woman or presenting interested in green infrastructure, abolition, and flooding in Louisiana, come view our exhibition and be a part of it through interactive activities like letter writing to our incarcerated cohort members and designing your own garden. 🪴 The green Infrastructure summer workshop series was the first of its kind partnered between @freedomtogrownola and @civicstudio.coop to give New Orleans residents like myself the opportunity to learn more about water management and abolition work. 🌊✊🏾

I have nothing but great things to say about my experience with this program, and I was overwhelmed with joy during our initial opening. My goal for next Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 6-8pm is to create a space for my fellow black women environmentalists to sit with the histories, geographies, and texts that we shared in our Living With Water exhibit. 🤗📝

Join me this weekend at the Black Urban Growers Conference for my workshop! 🌱

Titled: The Making of a Sustainable, Well- Connected Community, we pose the question:

What can historic Black models of cooperative economic and self-determination teach us about designing healthy, sustainable Black communities today? Attendees will understand cooperative economics by examining research on historical Black co-ops. We’ll build on this by discussing sustainable practices for climate resilience, and finalizing the model with sharing engagement strategies that build collective vision and power for a stronger, healthier community overall. 💵🤝🏽🌳

I’ll be co-facilitating this workshop with @jal0n1 of @thedeepsouthbaby and @theebeegees of @bgenolahub 🩷 our session is at 3:05pm!

Preserve Our Village means to sustain the community programming and resources we provide. This is our why.

Black Girl Environmentalist has hosted over hundreds of events over the few years and have connected with over thousands of you!

We appreciate every dollar that has come our way. Our campaign is still going and we ask because we know we can’t do it alone. We will continue to do our work because we know the importance of uplifting our voices in the environmental movement means protection of our earth and our people. Link in bio to donate 🤎✨🌍

Ending this strenuous year on a positive note highlighting my experiences attending the @nationalblackgrowerscouncil Annual Meeting and the @bimscience 5 year Anniversary Cruise. 🌊 The first half of the video includes footage from the NBGC meeting held in New Orleans this year featuring speakers on innovative farming, national policy changes, and sustaining finances during tough times. I left this meeting feeling beyond inspired to continue my work with the USDA supporting farmers in achieving generational wealth through sustainable practices. 🌾 I also admittedly fangirled at meeting intellectual women in leadership roles like Ebony Webber, MBA from MANRRS, Christi Bland-Miller from the Bland Family Farm, and Dr. Jennie Stephens from Center for Heirs’ Property!

The second half of this video includes footage from the BIMS event where founder Dr. Tiara Moore screened her award-winning documentary “Harm in the Water” that exposes environmental racism and pollution impact in Black communities on the Mississippi River. Making it incredibly fitting this event be held on a steam boat coasting along the Mississippi River. Speakers like Sage MIchael Pellet from Healthy Gulf and Bobbie Green, MS from @bgenolahub shared some inspiring words as well! 💙

It’s safe to say December was a month full of Black Excellence for me.

It’s wild to think it’s been 20 years.

Though it was a heavy week, it was also healing to be in community with my people.

20 years ago, Hurricane Katrina turned my world upside down. I didn’t know it at the time, but that storm was my first lesson in what environmental injustice really feels like. It’s the reason I show up for this work today.

Now I’m pouring that energy back into New Orleans, creating spaces where we can connect, heal, and take action together. Follow @bgenolahub to stay in the loop on upcoming events and programming. If you care about environmental justice or have an idea for how we can work together, send me a DM. I’d love to connect.
