POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One of the most architecturally rich cities in the UK, Edinburgh isn’t short of striking, storied heritage buildings. In its New Town UNESCO World Heritage Site – one of its most renowned civic neighbourhoods – a prominent mixed-use property, Six St Andrew Square, has just received a warm welcome by London-based architecture and design practice, @bgyarchitects.

Tapped to transform its communal spaces, the brief was a simple one: craft an arrival experience that was designed to impress, while incorporating contemporary amenities fit for the increasingly multi-faceted, high-end office of today – including a flexible events space, end-of-trip facilities and curated artwork.

Everyone remembers the uncertainty of those early career years – the pressure to have the answers, the challenge of finding your own voice. A few years down the line, with experience, comes a better understanding of what really matters.

From the importance of asking ‘why’ and the value of inexperience to embracing constraints and stepping away from the screen, we asked 10 designers to reflect on the lessons they wish they had known earlier, as part of our Next Gen Week revealing the Mix 30 under 30 Class of 2026.

How do local stories shape global design?

As design becomes increasingly international, designers themselves face a key question: how to create work that feels globally relevant without losing its connection to place.

From local craftsmanship and regional manufacturing to cultural storytelling in architecture and interiors, in our latest Mix Roundtable with @autexacoustics, we explored how employing local narratives can help us shape design that speaks to audiences everywhere.

1 Georges Square is complete, and we're glad to finally share the finished photography.

Situated on Bristol's floating harbour, this 100,000 sq ft workplace transformation was delivered across our architecture and interior design studios in Bristol and London. The brief called for a retrofit-first approach, retaining the existing structure whilst giving the building a considered new identity, inside and out.

Working across both studios, we have created a workspace that is functional without being formulaic, with interior spaces designed with rigour, care and attention to detail.

Bristol's tech sector is worth £1.7bn to the regional economy and growing. This building was designed with that context in mind.

Thank you to the full project team: Mace, WSP, Rider Levett Bucknall RLB, Gleeds, Lichfields UK, PFB, Symetri and Sweco.

At Davies House in the Mayfair neighbourhood of London, the architects @bgyarchitects used ALPI Xilo Noce Italiano Flamed on the walls and doors of a 2,100-square-metre office space for a private client. The hospitality-inspired transformation offers timeless surroundings designed with soft, neutral materials to create a calming, comfortable atmosphere.
