Too often the signs of brain aneurysms go unnoticed and we lose those we love in the prime of their lives – 30,000 brain aneurysms ruptures per year, 40% resulting in death. Research and awareness are critical to fighting this disease and imagining a world where brain aneurysms can be PREVENTED.⁠

The Bee Foundation (TBF) invites proposals for this brain aneurysm research grant that further the mission of reducing the number of deaths caused by brain aneurysms. Proposals directed at understanding the early detection, pathophysiology, genetic predisposition, or treatment will take priority. Proposals from a variety of disciplines (including but not limited to translational neurosciences, neurosurgery, neurology, radiology, and genetics) are encouraged, and multidisciplinary proposals that illustrate a multi-faceted approach will be weighted highly.⁠

Attending medical/surgical conferences has multiple advantages. While it was our first return to in person meetings, it was a successful event with @nassspine in Boston. During my time there I attended several scientific sessions (discussing the latest research being done in spine), met with industry reps for a variety of projects and see what new technologies are being developed for patients, and had a series of meetings/networking events. All around a great time.

⏰The second IG Live case-based discussion series will be next Monday 7th December. We’re thrilled to host Dr Kaushal Bhatt, MD.

📝The case will be a 45 year old female with a ruptured brain aneurysm that presented to ED. Teaching points from this case included emergent medical and neurosurgical intervention, team work, effective communication, and our roles in medicine regardless of speciality on delivering effective care to patients.

🧠A small introduction to Dr Bhatt: “Currently a research fellow in private practice and a clinical consultant to multiple spine surgery companies. My research primarily focuses on minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, one brain tumor study (Glioblastoma), and help to develop new spinal technologies and treatment modalities. I have been a first assistant in over 2000 neurosurgical cases involving brain, spine and peripheral nerve operations since 2010. I am also involved in work with CureGlioblastoma, was formerly the assistant medical director to Snoop Dogg’s Youth Football League for concussion management, and sit on the board for an organization that puts on free medical clinics for uninsured and underprivileged individuals in Los Angeles. I completed my MD in 2016 after taking years off to do research, consulting and working on my PhD. Planning on starting Neurosurgery residency next year and train to become an endovascular neurosurgeon.”

Today, in honor of National #GBMday, we are partnering with #glioblastoma patients and their families and friends to amplify awareness of #braincancer and @cureglioblastoma through their online and IRL (in real life) networks.

In addition, we will team up to raise donations to fund our unique and innovative programs including our internal cutting edge immunotherapy research and clinical development as well as scholarships for students. 100% of donations go towards our mission (we are an ALL-volunteer organization and there are no employees or payroll).

Introducing our founding CGAP teams: “JRo Squad” and “Team CG Slay”!
•
The “JRo Squad” is led by Jennifer Rosenthal (@jennifer.r.rosenthal.7) who was diagnosed with glioblastoma over THREE years ago. Jen has been a career consultant for the Executive MBA program at Columbia University in NYC and previously led recruitment for a major investment bank. The JenRo Squad has been busy this week raising over $12,000 (so far!) for @cureglioblastoma, including a large portion coming from her daughter Rebecca’s recent bat mitzvah.

“Team CG Slay” is led by our friend up north Laura Dill @lauradill12 who has been a cheerleader for our organization all year, proudly wearing our shirt in several posts. Unbelievably, her parents were BOTH diagnosed with glioblastoma within two weeks of each other. Her father, Gerry, passed away in April 2020 and her mother, Christine is currently receiving hospice care. The “CG” stands for Christine & Gerry, Care Giver, and, of course, Cure Glioblastoma!

ILLUSTRATIVE CASE OF AN UNUSUAL INTRACRANIAL PENETRATION.

A young Male patient presented to the emergency department with a wooden stick lodged firmly in his right cheek. He reported an incident with his mountain bike. No nasal discharge or neurological abnormalities were noted at presentation.
🔻
After plain radiographs failed to demonstrate any evidence of a foreign body, computed tomography (CT scan) revealed a 11 cm long hypodense foreign body in the right maxillary region, which reached the right emitentorium, crossing meckel cave and dislocating the right Superior Cerebellar artery,
🔻
Patient was conscious, GCS 15. He just referred disesthesia in the right V2/V3 trigeminal dermatomes.
🔻
The patient underwent a general anesthesia during which the wooden stick was extracted. Post operative Brain CT showed no complications. There are no acute evidence of neurologic sequelae. This case illustrates an unusual presentation of intracranial penetration

Tonight was supposed to be our official celebrity launch party in Los Angeles to build awareness and fundraise in honor of our first Brain Tumor Awareness Month since we launched in October 2019. But, like all of you, we are making the adjustments and making the most of it!

Cure Glioblastoma is differentiated from other organizations is that we are focusing on unmet needs of patients. Most NPOs raise money to fund academic research which is important, however, there are MANY other areas where funding is needed.
•
Our mission is to provide solutions for patients today and actively invest in tomorrow’s solutions.
•
TODAYS SOLUTIONS: we are focusing on BUILDING AWARENESS and CURATING RESOURCES for patients and families. More on this very soon…
•
TOMORROWS SOLUTIONS: we are BUILDING CURES and ACCELERATING TRANSLATION. We are establishing our own virtual research institute focused on rapidly advancing combination immunotherapies to patients and, in partnership with The Musella Foundation, we are investing in early stage startups developing new drugs and technologies to increase the number of shots on goal.

Over the course of the month of May we will be launching several exciting programs related to the above missions. Please follow (and share) for all the exciting updates!
