Many folks have been asking how they can help. While we are safe from the fires, our friends and colleagues have been affected. Additionally there are disaster relief teams and first responders in need of supplies, protective equipment, and even housing. We are coordinating efforts to receive donations to purchase those items, receive them at our office locations and then drop supplies directly to the stations serving the various needs in the disaster affected areas. If you or anyone you know would like to help, info in the slides offers multiple ways that you can.

All monetary donations will be used to purchase supplies per the request of our colleagues serving the area (medical providers, chefs, etc).

If you choose to mail or drop off supplies the addresses are provided in slide 3.

@drmesiwala and I after attending #aans2019 in San Diego. We had some time to chat over espresso and gelato. Dr. Mesiwala has been my mentor since 2010, my earliest days of medical school and has guided me and supported the development of my medical career. He is a phenomenal physician and surgeon who really takes the stigma of neurosurgery and turns it around. Dr. Mesiwala has taught me about medicine, surgery and major clinical research, but it was the conversations we had in between surgeries or late at night in the ICU that were profound pieces of advice. He always told me that what we do as surgeons is whatever is best for the patient. Making that decision, in the best interest of the patient, is the hard part of the job. He also reminds me that no matter how influential you become, always be there to support those that are working hard and trying to come up. Now, I have several students I mentor and I share the same thought process with them. Sometimes we all need a person that believes in our mission and keeps us on the right track. Yesterday I got to catch up with @pajohnjd the rockstar PA who taught me so much about surgery, reading EKGs, and just being a good provider. I’ve known John for 9 years, and he has supported me in my career and always mentored me. Sometimes you gotta raise some questions for your own sake. Asking questions helps us get perspective in our careers and especially in medicine helps us learn/grow. I’ve been asking myself a lot of questions lately how I want to develop this career. How will I end as the physician I intended to be when I first entered the field. Am I sticking to my path? I have swayed but I’m back on it and doing everything I have to do to get to where I want to be. My latest research study looked at the minimally invasive approach to fixating the #sacroiliacjoint which is a common cause of pain. We have been independently involved in studying this operation and pain generator for over 5 years now and have identified new clinical outcomes for patients. Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without the guidance of my mentor @drmesiwala We have written multiple abstracts and presented this at multiple conferences. Total Body Enhancement. No this isn’t a tanning booth. On the contrary it’s red light therapy in a chamber with a vibrating plate that you stand on. Supposedly there are some positive benefits to the red light including angiogenesis (blood vessel formation ) skin tightening etc. Not a lot of research behind it, and the vibrating plate helps with fat burning? Personally it just makes me self conscious lol. It’s available at my gym so I figured I’d give it a try. Can’t knock it till you’ve tried it.
