This year’s Art Ball promises a Tokyo-inspired neon dance party on the West Terrace, Japanese taiko drummers, multiple DJs, Asian fusion food stations and after-hours access to Noguchi to Asawa. Will I see you there?

And last but most certainly not least the biggest event of the summer, Matty’s Bday 🙂‍↔️😮‍💨. Thank you to everyone who made yesterday so special! Matty is such a lucky boy to be loved by so many of you. More importantly Matt and I are so lucky to have had all your support the last year, so this was a celebration for all of us!

Special shout out to my in laws who graciously let us takeover their house and throw this “casual” party of 80 humans. It was stressful weekend of planning and they went above and beyond to make it happen.

Of course a big shout out to my parents as well who helped with the catering and cleaners who honestly saved our sanity towards the end of the day lol.

And of course yaya who watched Matty while we set up. Note to self event planning with a baby is a level of advanced event planning I wasn’t mentally ready for.

Shout out to @vespaballoons with the amazing decor that brought it all together, I can’t believe I thought I was going to do it myself. They are incredible to work with and brought my vision to life!

With that said I will be recovering for the next week because who knew a first birthday could give you the worst Sunday and Monday Scaries lolz…

And in case anyone is wondering I did in fact make the cupcakes and smash cake because I’m absolutely psychotic.

Leaving my 8th AAJA with the same level of gratitude, energy, and love as I did after my very first.

This year brought a new perspective: truly being present. Catching up with friends, creating new bonds, and showing the way to first-time attendees.

For the first-timers especially, it’s a priceless thing watching those new lifelong friendships begin to blossom right in front of you.

What’s always rung true is that this family I found has encouraged me to be myself. They’ve championed me. They’ve cheered for me. They’ve had my back when I needed it most.

And being around them this week, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’m right where I’m supposed to be. With people who push you to be your best and know the storm will pass with the brightest skies imaginable.

Because of this group, I am who I proudly am today, and I can’t wait to carry that into the next chapter.

Thank you to the Twin Cities 🏙️ See you in the Bay! ✌🏽

Always love my time at the AAJA Convention where I get to hyper focus on the craft, reconnect with journalism pals from around the country, and enjoy a city I haven’t been to in some time. These folks with shared goals make me smile… BIG!
See you in San Francisco next year. After attending the #AAJA conventions for more than 30 years and serving at one point as a national board representative, I don’t plan to stop.

The cherry on top were the restaurants in #Minneapolis. Topping the list @sanjusanrestaurant a fusion of Japanese and Italian, a dinner hosted by @JPMorganChase and the #Lao restaurant @gainoi.mpls
