When I was a kid I used to pretend to be a white leopard with wings. That's probably all you really need to know. Plus, I started @100funthings.

Part 2! This challenge was so fun! We picked numbers from a hat to see the order of who would pick and I got the last number. At first I was bummed but I realized that it gave me time to look at the ingredients table and formulate a plan!

#jackjohnson #coversongs #livemusic #100funthings #jerusalem. I was at an open Mike the other night run by @100funthings @brahabender and I performed this for the first time, a cover of Jack Johnson’s Upside Down, the theme song of the Curious George cartoon. It’s been on my bucket list a long time to learn how to play this song. Obsessed! YouTube video coming out soon by the Tel Aviv beach whoa!!!

The Open Mic 🎤 last night was standing room only. Some fifty women came to make music, lay down beats, do comedy, make us laugh, make us cry, and feel connected.

I told the crowd, "We really undervalue our own creativity and you know how you can tell? Because you know how other women's creativity makes you feel. Just think of how it feels to see the other women here singing, performing, anything. The way it makes the oomph, that something, inside you. That feeling? That's how you make us feel."

Raw. Real. Regal. So, so beautiful. We opened our hearts and eyes and throats to express and to embrace, to show and to tell and to cheer and to holler up one another.

The original lyrics of October Rain sung by an opera singer. Jethro Tull as background beats for classical flute. Protest poetry spitting spoken word like glass and bullets shining in the rain of our tears. My first baby steps towards standup comedy! They laughed! I was terrified so later on I sung II Most Wanted by Beyonce and Miley Cyrus and everybody went "oooohhh..." and I felt much more in my comfort zone. 😆 A raw rendering of the song Speechless by a woman who has so deeply found her voice. Some real standup by a real comedian who has previously only performed online. This was her live debut! Lani and Leah Sarah breaking all of our hearts with their unbelievable voices singing their own original, unfiltered songs. The guitars. The violin. The stomping and clapping and snapping. The empty bottle of Merlot next to the coffee urn in the deliciously old-timey kitchen to be tossed in the trash at the end of the night.

The list of women who signed up at the door to perform was *four pages long* and we cheered every one. We ran late, until 11. So worth it. Especially for my own rockstar performance of All Because of You by U2 for a few close friends who stuck around after everyone else went home. 😉👩‍🎤🤟🏽

Here's how people felt:

"This was totally unique."

"This filled me up."

"I need to connect with more women like this!"

Yes we do, darlin'. The Purim party is up next. Let's keep dancing.

What a night of laughter and unity we had! 😂

From secular to religious and everything in between, our diverse lineup of comedians hosted by Braha Bender from 100 Fun Things had us in tears at the NBN Aliyah Campus for an unforgettable evening of comedy.

A big thanks to all who attended. Your support helped raise funds for Magen, an organization dedicated to creating safer Jewish communities in Israel and worldwide.

We do not make art to pretend. We make art to transform, to generate, to alchmeize. Okay, fine, we also make art to pretend, to escape, to dream. But don't those things end up coming around 360°? Can we dream deep enough that even the annoying and temporary and under-the-skin and plain pain become glittering and glorious and ripe and rife with meaning?

I think so. Heck, I know so. I've experienced it an infinity of times: the only way out is through.

But here is the even bigger secret. The only way through is together. (People forget about that part.)

(Not me. I don't forget.)

(Saving you a seat at the Women & Girls Open Mic at @studio_of_her_own on Monday, April 8th. 8:00 PM. Performer sign-up is at the door.)

See you there, bells ringing. 🔔 Tickets 🎟 at link in bio, baybay: www.tinyurl.com/GirlsOpenMic

Pop quiz! Do you pursue your dreams more fiercely when you're surrounded by warm, enthusiastic support or when you're a lonely cowgirl riding off into the sunset? If you're like me, the answer is obvious. Friends and support FTW!

One thing that drives me nuts is when I see women being so hard on themselves for not reaching harder for their dreams and goals - when they have NO support systems in place to help them get there.

Cultivating and maintaining a robust, reliable support system isn't just one tool among many. It is THE most important things you need to put in place in order to even begin thinking seriously about achieving your dreams. Seriously. This cannot be overstated.

Once I was asked to present a workshop on overcoming creative blocks and the group was surprised to find me talking about friendship. They probably thought I was going to give them a list of shiny-sounding technical tips and tricks to get the ol' creativity faucet unclogged. But real life isn't like that because creativity isn't a technical thing.

Your creativity is YOU laid out in your words on a page or your paint 🎨 on a canvas or your vision in a film or your strategic mind in a company or however else you show up and shine. Whatever your field and format, your creativity is your essential self coming to light in order to add luminance to the world.

That takes guts. And guts take friends.

So what can you do today, this week, this month to cultivate and maintain a relationship with the people who make you feel truly seen and loved and believed in? Reach out and reach in. The world needs your light.
