It's been a strange few weeks, a lot of sickness, a lot of caring, remedies and nurturing, and in-between allowing myself to see the magic. The seasonal change is really making me feel such a shift internally. I'm trying so hard to hold a mindset that will stay with me through to next year, but also being gentle on myself. Shall I tell you what I find nourishes my soul the most though... Family, food and being home. It's been a week of genuinely feeling gratitude in my core ✨

If you're a bit stuck, I'd highly recommend trying to change how you're thinking about the stuckness, because when you do, magic comes to you! 🤗

Sending so much love to you.

Sunday roast 📍 @brixtonlaundry If you’re looking for a great Sunday roast in South London, The Laundry in Brixton is well worth a visit!

There are three roast options to choose from: beetroot skewer, sirloin beef and pork. The real highlight is the unlimited roast vegetables (yes, including potatoes!) and gravy. The roasties are particularly impressive – beautifully crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside.

With generous portions and all the Sunday roast essentials done right, The Laundry is a solid and reliable choice for a comforting Sunday feast! #foodspotting #brixton #londonfoodblog

Fine I will tell you - this is how you’re going to fallmaxx to your full potential.

The Wild Table by The Brixton Laundry is THE PERFECT overnight stay/experience just outside of London. It is a stripped back, back to nature, fire fuelled feast in the woods that will have all your friends pinging you on instagram and asking you where you at. I would do some grafting though as rumour has it there are over 12,000 on the waiting list for next year’s Spring series.

The event is hosted at the Browning Bros which is a fifth general organic farm in Essex. It’s a beautiful events space and if you book yourself into an overnight stay you get a great selection of tents/yurts and also a cooked breakfast to soak up all that alcohol before you are sent home the next day.

Dinner at @brixtonlaundry …

Order:
- Virgin Elderflower Mojito 🍸
- Pork Croquette, Salsa Roja
- Steak Frites - Grilled Bavette, Cafe de Paris Butter, Fries
- Apple Tartine, Vanilla Ice-Cream

The Croquette starter was simply lovely. The filling was full of salty, stringy rich and cheese. The filling also had with large chunks of meat, and was encased in a beautifully light and crisp coating. The Salsa roja tasted a lot like a red pepper hummus although this was a nice texture contrast to the crispy croquette.

The Streak Frites were a delight. The Steak (Medium) was insanely tender and literally fell apart with little to no need to actually use a knife to eat the meat. The meat was also coated in tasty seasoning with that had heavy ginger notes. Certainly not your average steak. The Cafe de Paris butter was certainly interesting - a love it/hate it kind of sauce. It contained mixed spices although the most prevalent flavour was citrus. The meal came with a healthy portion of freshly-fried, crisp and fluffy fries.

The seasonal greens featured a healthy portion of cabbage - a tasty addition to the meal.

The Apple Tartine was tasty and featured sliced, sweet apples placed in a croissant-like buttery pastry. The apples themselves had a bit of bit and this was appreciated as the ice cream began to melt as the pastry slowly lost its flaky quality. A pleasant dessert, however I would HEAVILY recommend the Pavlova, Custard and Seasonal Compote as this was also ordered on our table. The Meringue was beautiful - sweet and soft without the chalky quality often its texture can be associated with. The berry compote was subtly sweet and not tart, whilst the custard was light and bridged the flavour of the dessert perfectly. A must try dish!

The Virgin Eldeflower Mojito was refreshing and complimented the cafe de Paris butter, whilst also cutting the richness of the croquettes and Apple Tartine.

Our host, Annette was a dream! She made every effort to not only accommodate our requests, but to enhance our experience and make us feel at home. A true asset to The Laundry team, and sure to good take care of you on your visit.

Some meals are about far more than what arrives on the plate.

The Wild Table grew from Mel’s vision of bringing people together outside, gathering around open fires, cooking in nature and sharing good food around a table. Having now experienced it, I think what @melwinebrown has created goes much further than that.

There is something about spending an afternoon in the woods that naturally changes the pace of things, and @browningbros have the most tranquil setting. Nowhere else you particularly need to be, you watch the food being cooked over fire, talk to the people around you, wait for the next dish to arrive and gradually become part of everything happening around you.

And the food was exceptional.

Course after course cooked on a @ofyr_uk fire, using local and seasonal ingredients with some seriously good cooking behind it. Flambéed garlic prawns, focaccia, huge sharing plates, Dedham Vale tomahawk and finally a chocolate dessert of dreams.

The service was brilliant, warm, relaxed and incredibly personal. And eating at long, family-style tables with people we had only just met turned out to be one of the loveliest parts of the afternoon. Plates were passed around, conversations started and by the end it felt much more like a gathering than simply going somewhere for lunch.

A rather special afternoon in the woods.

Fire-cooked food in the forest, locally sourced ingredients, and honestly one of the best nights we’ve had in a long time. 🔥

@melwinebrown x @brixtonlaundry Wild Table pop-up at @browningbros was next level. Woodland tables of eight, a walk to an appetiser stop, outrageously good tomahawk steak, with the gooiest skillet brownie to finish all cooked entirely over fire. Plus a petit four of an Alaska Bomb which we toasted ourselves to round everything off.

Throw in the excellent company and zero parenting logistics, and this one earns a proper spot on my grid, not just stories!

I posted this on my stories and so many of you asked me where it was, so here you go…

The Wild Table in Essex 🌿

You know how much I love gardening, so eating seasonal, locally grown produce is definitely my thing right now — especially at harvest time.

It’s set in the woods at @browningbros, about an hour from London, with @melwinebrown cooking everything outdoors over a fire pit. Seasonal ingredients, beautiful plates, flowers, long tables under the trees and that amazing smell of food cooking over an open fire.

A proper dreamy experience 🍄

Ps , happy birthday @emsmullane 🫶🏽
