Every week, multiple times a week, classes full of elementary and junior high students come to BYU to become artists.
The BYU Department of Art’s @byuart JumpstART program is powered by BYU students studying art education. These BYU students create curriculum and teach kids how to engage in creative play, learn artistic skills, and develop their own unique styles as creatives!

Abide in Me and I’ll Abide in You
Screen print

In frustration I cry,
Why am I the one carrying myself? I am the one holding myself and loving myself. I’m so alone and I’m exhausted.

When I am calm and my fists unclench His spirit says,
I lived your life in a single drop of blood. I carry you, I hold you, and I hear you. You are not alone. Abide in me and I’ll abide in you.

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5)

WELCOME TO GREEN RIVER
My 3rd small town photo book, all about the town of Green River, Utah, is available to pre-order now at the link in my bio!
.
I’ve been working on this one for over two years and I’m so excited to finally have it out alongside ARCO & WENDOVER. It’s a trilogy now! And they all look fantastic together on our coffee table.
.
The book features a combination of digital and analog photography, paired with stories and history from the desert town of Green River, Utah. Surrounded by stunning geology and crowded national parks, most visitors drive right past it—unaware of its rich history and small town charm. The remnants of cowboys, railroads, and Cold War-era missile testing sites are left behind.
.
This photo series is the result of 3 different trips—each in a different season—taken between 2021-2022. It studies the town's paradoxical role as both a remote waypoint and its liminality as a central landmark for "passing through."
.
Included in the book is a forward by James R. Swenson, associate professor of art history and the history of photography at Brigham Young University. (Which you can also read at the link in my bio!)
.
Thanks so much to everyone who’s ordered a copy already! Pre-orders will remain open until ~July 10, then will be shipped out in August!

Gary and I are in Alaska with @byubiology teaching watercolor and gyotaku printing. The first picture is a gyotaku print of the Halibut I caught today. We used Sumi ink on #washi from @awagami_factory. We are partnering with biology on this trip to see how art classes can be combined with their labs which take place at @docwarnersalaska. It’s been so fun to apply some of the things we learned at @awagami_factory and to fish, hike and enjoy Alaska. Today we saw whales up close from our tiny boat, porpoises, sea otters etc.
