That Slo-Mo Thoooo 😏

The beauty of all of this rehab is the attention to detail I’ve been bringing to training. After every warmup attempt and every working set I ask myself - how did that feel? Am I balanced in each foot? Am I pulling under forcefully? Am I pushing up into the bar when my feet make contact?

I truly believe that this attention to detail is what drives technical advances, as well as improves tissue health!

Getting better (physically and technically) every day 🤗

Stronger each session! 💪

Every session I lift I’m pushing just a bit more, with this session almost on program (despite still push jerking).

I can tell I’m not 100% confident in my quad, losing a bit of force at extension, and rushing out of the bottom position. Still, by keeping an eye on this and trying to fix it every session, I feel like over time I’ll be back to normal.

Cut rehab times in half with this one trick!

Okay I’m mostly kidding, but somewhat serious…

After weeks of not knowing what to do for my quad, I just decided to do things that didn’t hurt it, and not do things that hurt it. I quit obsessing over every little twinge from walking up stairs, getting off the floor, etc., and instead started trying to increase my (pain-free) capacity day after day.

I hope this strategy works, because my next idea is amputation (my next idea is actually prolonged rest… but that’s basically amputation to me).

Love the Sound of That Catch!!! 🫰

Not 100% but feeling pretty close. These look pretty similar to my normal lifting, so I can tell my quad is getting better.

Just gotta keep plugging away!

First Day With Full Snatches!!!

After resting for the weekend I decided to test out full snatches for the first time in over three weeks.

I put a hard cap on 100kg, as it’s about 70% and a weight I felt like I could snatch even when super beat up.

I did snatch deadlift, muscle snatch, power snatch, snatch until I felt like my fatigue would change my form or I might put my quad at risk. No pain all the way up to 100kg!

I’m not in love with the technique - I’m cutting my extension and diving in the catch a little bit. Over the next week or so I can clean that up and start bumping the weights up. Overall, though, today was huge for my confidence.

Although I can feel a little weakness/tenderness/sensitivity in my quad, it’s the best it’s felt in weeks, and it’s truly on its way to a full recovery.

🔁 The Injury Cycle 🔁

It seems like since I tore my quad last June I’ve been in a perpetual state of rehab, recovery, injury, rehab, and so on.

I recently tweaked my quad again (this time a different part) and it went from something that felt like would heal in a few days, to being three weeks in and not positive it’s any better. Today was the best it’s felt, with no pain up to 110 on power clean and jerks.

The hardest part of this specific injury is not knowing what happened, how bad it is, or how to improve it. Hopefully, I’m on the right track with my rehab, and this will clear up in the next week or so.

Until then….
