Hi. Ohw’dis here. 🐕🌶️ Let’s get acquainted.

I am a chihuahua.
I love my dad @tacososcar
I am here as your #spicysoiree liaison

No Immigrants No Spice asked me to be your source for everything you need to know about the Spicy Soiree, because of my excellent communication skills and my extremely low bullshit meter. I accepted immediately. (Treats were discussed.)

So here’s the message: there are VERY few dinner tickets left for the Spicy Soiree, and prices go UP TOMORROW.

Some of you have had this in your cart since LAST WEEK. I see you. I see everything. I’m a chihuahua, it’s literally my job. 👀

From now on, I’ll be popping up here with:
📣 Real updates, no fluff
🎟️ Ticket news (I will absolutely be pushy about this)
🍽️ Details on dinner, performances, and the market
🌶️ Anything else you need to know before Saturday, Oct 10 at Merkado, SF

My promise to you: I’ll tell it to you straight, I’ll keep it spicy, and I’ll protect you from FOMO at all costs.

Turn on notifications. Stay close. I’m watching the ticket count so you don’t have to.

🎟️ Tickets at the link in bio. GO. NOW

ይስከን: Yeskèn: Coffee Ceremony
Tomorrow, Saturday, October 3 | 2–4 pm
Kala Gallery @kalagallery_berkeley

Join us tomorrow for a special presentation of Ainslee Alem Robson’s (@ahhslay) practice, taking place within her installation ይስከን: Yeskèn: Unsettled Grounds, currently on view as part of the exhibition What We Hold.

In Amharic, “yeskèn” refers to the time it takes for coffee grounds to settle at the bottom of the jebena, the clay pot used in the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. The grounds must settle naturally - the time cannot be rushed. This moment of waiting becomes an invitation to pause, gather, and reflect.

Through the coffee ceremony, Ainslee considers coffee, food, immigrant communities, and community elders as vessels of intergenerational memory - living, unconventional archives that carry histories, stories, and cultural knowledge across generations.

Join us for an afternoon of coffee, conversation, and reflection!

Saturday, October 3, 2–4 pm
Kala Gallery, 2990 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley
Space is limited. Please RSVP.

The Reception at Cafe Colucci @cafecolucci, 4-6pm

🔗 RSVP via the link in our bio.

Special thanks to the supporters of Kala’s Fellowship Program, including the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts @warholfoundation, The Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation @wattisfoundation, Meyer Sound @meyersoundlabs, Cafe Colucci and many generous individual donors.

Some photos I did a while back of @cafecolucci for @calliopearkilic story in @eastbaynosh

The wonderful reporting explores the increases in restaurant expenses as caused by inflation, tariffs and now gas prices by analyzing the ingredients and spices in a single Ethiopian dish served at Café Colucci in Oakland.

We can pickle that! 🥒✨ Hold on to the last cucumbers of the season and turn ’em into pickles, inspired by Chef Tyler’s dill pickle recipe at our CSA partner site, @thenewparkway! 🥒💚

Want to try it? Slice up your CSA cucumbers, toss with dill, salt + a squeeze of lemon or lime, and boom – that’s a pickle baby! 🥒✨
