Open the Vault October‼️

Drill Edition: Some drills from the archives we’ve put into practice at UWW!

Rolling Continuous Turns: A great drill to reinforce hammer technique with intentional posture, consistent push, and patience to let the ball work around the body while it rolls on the ground!

PVC Wrap Fulls: A drill from @average._joe that I love - a new spin on an old classic! The traditional bar/pipe on shoulders is great to teach long arms and level shoulders, but it can’t replicate the stretch and separation we want to feel with the actual discus. Create separation by pushing the PVC back and catch the power position with the same deep discus/PVC. More separation/stretch = deeper power position catches = longer time to accelerate the discus.

Entry Mat Kicks: A drill with great physical stimulus reminding athletes to work patiently over their non-throwing side out of the back on the entry before actively working the legs and hips ahead to the middle!

Kick the Bottle/Squash the Bug: A fundamental drill with countless variations - all about initiating the power throw with the feet and hips allowing a thrower to push the ground intentionally and pull the throwing side into the finish from bottom to top! A classic I grew up on!

OH Press Powers: Working tall into our finishes!

Nice work from each of our athletes here! Excited to keep moving forward in a strong way this fall!
