Cierra Britton Gallery is proud to present I’m A Witness, a group exhibition opening alongside Calabash (@calabash.nyc ), Chef Camari Mick’s (@camari_mick) new restaurant in the West Village at 183 Christopher Street, New York, NY. The exhibition spans figurative and abstract painting and photography, featuring artists Debra Cartwright, Faith Couch, Adrienne Elise Tarver, Laurena Finéus, Maya Seas, and Rugiyatou Ylva Jallow. I’m A Witness explores the act of witnessing yourself arrive at a full circle moment. All around us, in this restaurant, in this neighborhood, and in this city, New York is in a new chapter. After years of collective challenge and change, the city is exhaling and filling its rooms back up with people and purpose. This exhibition is part of that exhale. Each artist arrives at this moment having moved through something: through distance, through memory, through the quiet labor of becoming. Their work is evidence of the growth that emerged from that movement. Scenes of nature, family, rest, and journeying place the viewer in the role of witness to their return. To sit with this work over a meal is to be reminded that nourishment takes many forms. Calabash feeds the body. I Am A Witness asks you to bear witness to your own becoming. 📸: @gentlandhyers

Calabash (@calabash.nyc) is the Afro-Caribbean brasserie and bakery from award-winning chef Camari Mick (@camari_mick ), and it is unlike anywhere else in the city. 🍽️ Named after the vessel that has traveled across the African diaspora for centuries, the menu follows a similar path, from West Africa through the Caribbean to the US East Coast.
