This watercolor Steller's Jay was a request from my amazing photographer friend, @candaceleephotography based on one of her many beautiful jay photos. I happened to see them at Yosemite last summer and have wanted to paint one ever since!
This guy will head to @arthousecharlotte as soon as he gets framed!

A quiet hike turned into a heart-stopping moment 😳🐻

Coming face-to-face with a mama bear and her cubs on a woodland trail is a powerful reminder of how wild and unpredictable nature can be. Respect the space, stay calm, and let wildlife be wild.

When you put out bird food but forget to tell the bears it’s not for them 🐻😂

This black bear clearly decided the backyard bird feeder was today’s snack stop!

Bird 205 - Steller’s Jay - photo by @candaceleephotography ✨ A sapphire flash of mountain forests, carrying mischief and intelligence on bold wings.

🕊️ Macnjenni Bird Gallery Presentation

🪶 Scientific name: Cyanocitta stelleri

Range & habitat: Western North America, from Alaska through Canada and the western United States into Central America; coniferous forests, woodland edges, and mountain regions.

Key features: Deep blue body, black head and crest, long tail, harsh but expressive calls, highly intelligent and curious behavior.

Diet: Omnivorous—nuts, seeds, berries, insects, small animals, and human food scraps.

Nesting: Cup-shaped nests built high in trees; both parents help raise the chicks.

Fun fact: Steller’s Jays can mimic the calls of hawks to scare other birds away from food sources.

🌿 Poetic Caption
Blue fire leaps between the pines,
a clever eye watching all—
forest gossip wrapped in feathers.

This recent signing of mine shows a delightful wildlife moment as a group of nutria are spotted enjoying life in the water — pausing to preen themselves before breaking into playful wrestling matches. Equal parts cute and chaotic, this river hangout is pure joy to watch.
