10/10 was the Centennial of the iconic Shakespeare Bridge in Franklin Hills! Our ensemble members Carene Rose Mekertichyan, Sabra Williams, Daisy Tichenor, Kelvin Morales, and Isaac Ybarra loved representing Indie Shakes in the parade and at our booth where we created Shakespearean Mad Libs, played Shakespearean corn hole, and made flower crowns with our neighbors 💗 A HUGE thank you to @franklinhills for creating such an incredible community event full of art, culture, cute dogs, and LA pride!

A VERY special appearance by Wilma the dog dressed as William Shakespeare next to our Bardhole (our beloved Shakespearean corn hole)

The incredible juggling skills of @daisytich

Thank you @franklinhills !

In the parade we were behind the iconic Charley & Shirley Mims, the couple who got married on the bridge in 2000!

We had such an incredible time this Saturday at our Ghost Songs sneak preview! Our performers debuted some songs & scenes from the show, we had a cast & crew Q&A, and our friends loved to see what we've been working on this spooky season 🕯️Ghost Songs open in THREE DAYS! Don't miss your new musical obsession - ticket link in the bio 🎟️

A wide-eyed teen finds herself swooning over the romance, drama, and poetry of Shakespeare's words - forbidden order the thumb of England's new Puritanical rule. When her beloved, secret scripts are to be destroyed, there's more than ink and paper to be saved. An intimate world premiere chamber musical about censorship, courage, and the transformative power of art.

Ghost Songs Director Leonora Pitts talks about how this musical is for the theater kids, her fascination with 1600's England, and why she loves Indie Shakes with our Artistic Director Melissa Chalsma.

Agnes (Christie Coran) illustrates the beauty and danger of playhouses to a young and cloistered Cat (Jennifer Hardy).

Ghost Songs Writer and Managing Director David Melville explains his vision for the show.

There are no words to describe how incredible last weekend’s Demand To Be Heard Festival was… so here are some of our favorite photos! We will share more throughout October in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Bravo to the Resident Artists who shared their heart, souls, and art with us. Thank you a thousand times to the @gabbypetitofoundation for flying out and being so vulnerable and generous with us at the screening. Huge thanks to @wisteriatheater, @menandbeasts_la, and @artshare_la for hosting our various events.

Wishing everyone a self-care filled October! 🤍🌻🫶

Indie Shakes is proud to honor #BlackTheatreDay! Swipe as we highlight the incredible Black storytelling and talent that graced our stages this past year, from the world premiere of “The Aaron Play” written by Zachary Bones (@theoldman_bones) to our summer season in Griffith Park 🖤✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

Founded by Dr. Monica White Ndounou, @thecraftinstitute launched Black Theatre Day in 2021 to honor the 200th anniversary of The African Grove Theatre, home to the African Company — the first Black theatre company in the United States.

First, a throwback to Indie Shakes’ 2022 premiere of the workshop production of “White People Do Not Know How to Behave at Entertainments Designed for Ladies & Gentlemen of Colour”. Devised by our Black ensemble members, this new play development uplifted the too often erased African Company and explored what it means to be a Black American performer.

Black Theatre Day is a call to action to celebrate, support, and increase visibility of 21st century Black theatres in their ongoing efforts to build sustainable, institutional wealth. Join us in uplifting and centering the work of these Black founded and led local theatre companies and organizations:
