So excited to share my final piece with this program. This work explores dream psychology and I’m forever grateful for everyone involved💙💙💙

Choreography : Olivia Cassady
Title of Piece: R.E.M.
Cast: Ambar Cesari, Arya Naran, Ayla Grodan, Brianna Ruiz, Carolina Polomeras, Eva Lawler, Hannah Alfonso, Hayley Pieper, Kaitlyn Ortiz
Music: “Forever” by the Little Dippers; “A Dream” by Flatsound, voice by David Cassady

When we all fall asleep, where do we go? No, but actually? Through her piece, “R.E.M.”, senior dance major, Olivia Cassady, explores the world of dreams and the movement of the subliminal; a space where logic dissolves and the subconscious mind takes control. Inspired by the rapid eye movement stage of sleep—the phase most associated with vivid dreaming—the piece explores how the mind processes memory, emotion, and hidden desire beneath conscious awareness.
The movement seeks to convey the unpredictable architecture of dreams through ever-shifting structures and narratives. The individuals in the space drift between states of control and surrender, embodying the tension between the waking self and the deeper psyche that emerges in sleep.
“R.E.M.” highlights the power of the subconscious, a force that, though often hidden, is continuously shaping identity, perception, and emotional truth. This work invites the audience to question what is real, what is remembered, and what lies beneath the surface of our typical thought patterns; The mind is so much more powerful than we know!!
Olivia would like to thank her beautiful cast for all their openness and dedication to her process. She would also like to thank her incredible mentor, Bailey Grayson, for her guidance in bringing this work to life.

I believe in magic. The alchemy of this cast coming together for “mitochondrial eve” proved just how formidable the feminine spirit can be, even in a world that desires to see you burn. So they lit up the stage, they burned, they survived. They did it in honor of every woman who came before. We stand before bulls, arms akimbo. We turn men to stone. We love fiercely. We fight with even more fierceness. We share a secret, passed from one generation to the next.

I am so grateful for each of you. Thank you for sharing yourselves in this process. You are the magic that made this work ❤️

If you believe in ghosts, swipe to the last photo. Do you see her, standing with us? 💃

Overcoming Together
The fight between mind and body. When injuries keep us from doing the things we love, how do we heal?

This was such an incredible experience, and I am so thankful to have been given this opportunity. I am so excited to create more during my time here at UTampa. An amazing night underneath the stars featuring some of the most talented people I have ever met.

Dancers: Carolina Palomeras & Mia Dean
Music: “Come Together” Joe Cocker

Bailar es conectar con el lenguaje escondido del alma. De esta manera el cuerpo puede decir todas las palabras que la boca no puede formular.

Y para ti que es la danza?
