Daily Report, Part 1 — 04.15.24
Aaaaaannnnnnndddddd we’re back after taking some time for a spring break trip: what we got into today — multi-company in-service; Fire Alarm awards; “a reading of the cans” and a long night: @charlottefire is implementing a revised high-rise firefighting tactical operating guideline and this in-service block serves as the “hands-on” reps for every company in the city to work on practical evolutions, fire department connection (FDC) familiarization, and other relevant skills.

Then we raced back to #1 for the @CFD_alarm telecommunicator awards and recognition ceremony which started off with great remarks by Fire Chief Johnson @chiefreginaldjohnson who stood with CFD command staff, Fire Alarm leadership, and friends/family of those being recognized. I try to get into the Fire Alarm office and see at least 2 of the 3 shifts who work every day (I’ve been all over and I can say unequivocally, no one does it better and they are wwwaaaayyyy under-appreciated). After every run, if the same shift is working, I also try and stop in for a “hey, this is what it looked like” on scene — photos, video, etc. so that it’s not “just” radio traffic and 911 calls. This is to say — Thank you Alarm!

Just after 2pm on 3/31/24, companies from the 6th battalion were dispatched to a report of a house fire in the 9800 Block of Averyairh Hill Way. Upon arrival Engine 33 found smoke showing from the garage area and began fire attack. Engine 25 pulled a 2nd line while Ladder 33 preformed a primary search which proved negative. End of Tour Report — 03.27.24 — Trying something different . . . combining a couple of shifts into a single post. We stay pretty busy so there’s always something to share — it’s more that a just-after-shift post is well. . . a lot . . . Over the last couple of shifts we’ve had a few dwelling fires, a chiefs meeting with the command staff, and the opportunity to watch members of A-shift complete live fire evolutions during their company officer development course. This session’s focus is on critical decision-making and understanding the dynamic between task completion and effective supervisory practices. Great stuff by @charlottefire Training Academy staff and all firefighters and engineers putting in the work!
