At WSCAH, we know that ensuring New Yorkers have access to healthy food takes all of us working together. That’s why we’re proud to be a founding member of The Roundtable, a coalition of ten leading emergency food providers across New York City.

Today, the @nydailynews published an op-ed from The Roundtable, sharing why this collective work matters now more than ever.

Members of The Roundtable are seeing firsthand how rising food costs are affecting working families, older adults, immigrants, and others struggling to make ends meet. Read “Mamdani’s NYC Groceries plan expands affordability” to learn why our city needs a multi-pronged approach to food access that combines trusted community-based organizations, strong public investment, and innovative programs like NYC Groceries.

This morning, @darializaforny and members of her campaign volunteered to pack produce bags for community distribution. They packed 150 bags of fresh fruit and vegetables, which will be distributed to New Yorkers this week. We’re grateful for their help and service!

Earlier this month, West Side Campaign Against Hunger joined partners from The Roundtable in Albany for the @alliancehungerfreeny New York State Food Summit.

The gathering brought together advocates from across the state to share ideas on policy, innovation, and collaboration in the fight against hunger. Our CEO, Greg Silverman, had the opportunity to moderate a closing panel on how greater coordination can strengthen the emergency food sector, alongside WSCAH board member @marializardo702, Roundtable member and @tcahnyc Founder Dr. Melony Samuels, and @alliancehungerfreeny ED @natashapernicka. We also appreciated the thoughtful conversations led by partners, including insights on culturally responsive food access.

Grateful for the chance to connect with others doing this work across New York and to learn from one another as we keep moving forward together.

Our fifth annual block party, WSCAH ROCKS THE BLOCK, had us dancing in the streets! Together, we packed over 2,300 bags of groceries for our customers and made hundreds of advocacy postcards and paper plates to mail to our legislators. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, volunteered, donated, and supported.

A special thank you to our sponsors for making this event possible: @rodephsholomnyc, Katten, @harrysshoesny, @magpienewyork, @buunnicoffee, @nyphospital, @instacart, @jacobspickles, @stpaulstandrew, @sharingexcess, Royal Fresh, @aceendico and @cityharvestnyc. Special thanks to @yaledayofservice!

Coincidence that our colors match the Knicks’? 💙🧡We’d like to think it’s just good timing.

53 years of waiting, one parade, millions of people out in the streets. That same spirit was alive at our block party this month: volunteering, learning, decorated hats, orange and blue as far as the eye could see.
The trophy’s new. The way New Yorkers show up for each other isn’t.

Go Knicks!

A snapshot of my last two days. NYS Nonprofit Committee meeting with friends. WSCAH board meeting where I got Martina’s sofrito recipe. Lunch with Jeff as we plot and plan on how to expand the voices & power of the human services sector. An evening with some of my favorite people where I ran into another of my other favs. Walking past the home of La Doctora Galvan reminded me of all her contributions in the community. It’s been a good two days 🧡💙

Yesterday, WSCAH joined The Roundtable, @nyequityadvocates, @foodbank4nyc, @cityharvestnyc, and @unitedwaynyc at City Hall to advocate for $100 million in funding for the Community Food Connection, which funds food pantries across NYC. We are calling on our city officials to protect food access for millions of New Yorkers.

With federal funding cuts, changing SNAP requirements, and rising costs of living, New Yorkers are trying to make every dollar count. Emergency food providers are feeling the strain, and we are calling for public investment now.

Healthy food is a basic need, and creating a stronger, more equitable food system requires sustained support and action.
