What does it take to strengthen democracy? 🗳️ One year into Civic Nation 2030, we’re even more sure of our answer — people showing up for each other. It’s the voters showing up to thousands of Party at the Polls celebrations this fall 🥳, the lawyers defending the vote ⚖️, the students leading on campus 🎒, the neighbors building belonging 🏡, and the local leaders learning from each other 🧠.

Swipe for our Year One highlights, and read the full strategic plan at the 🔗 in bio.

Grateful for the opportunity to serve on the Southfield Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board, representing Henry Ford Health.

Through my work, I’ve come to understand just how closely health and community development go hand in hand. The places we live, work, and build our lives shape our health, our opportunities, and ultimately the strength of our communities.

Looking forward to working alongside local leaders, learning from the community, and doing my part to support Southfield’s continued growth.

Another opportunity to serve. Another opportunity to learn. Let’s get to work! 🤝🏾

We know that to truly have a cross sector coalition with a shared responsibility to take action for all students in San Antonio, we need to build partnerships and support the civic engagement of our #ELDP Fellows and #ELDPAlumni. Many of our Alumni have completed the @civicnation @chngecollective to further their local leadership and we are excited to welcome Fellows coming to us from @chngecollective. We were able to get our alumni together this summer to connect, strategize, and share about our programs. Thank you to @cosa_cd1 + @civicnation for sponsoring our mixer and to our year round Premier Partner for Public Education @heb #helpinghere, your support helps us build an informed, empowered, and inspired coalition advancing transformative public ed opportunities for all students in #SanAntonio. Looking forward to continued partnership with @chngecollective! Shout out to @wildbarleykitchenandbrewery for hosting us and to @lvazquezphotography for capturing our event. #LSAISD #ELDP #ELDPAlumni #EdChats #informtransform #publiceducation #civicengagement

My Civic Action Plan is really important to me. As someone who moved to the U.S. from Latinoamerica, I often found myself feeling unheard in medical settings, which negatively impacted the care I received. These experiences have motivated me to advocate for my community and work toward creating a healthcare system where everyone feels heard, respected, and valued. I am committed to helping ensure that everyone receives high-quality care, regardless of their identity or immigration status.

@chngecollective is a national leadership community that trains, connects, and elevates local changemakers — and they just opened applications for the 2027 Fellowship program! 🚀

As members of the Change Collective’s fellowship cohort, I am thrilled to invite a new generation of leaders in Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Jackson, MS; Memphis, TN; and San Antonio, TX to apply and join our movement to unite neighbors in creating local solutions. Tag a friend below who’s ready to be the change their city needs! Applications close September 23. Apply at change-collective.org/apply or #linkinbio

For the past three years, @chngecollective has been reinventing civic life for a new generation. Meet the leader behind that work: Executive Director Dexter Mason. 👋

By equipping local changemakers with skills, support, and networks, we’re fostering unity and lasting solutions where they’re needed most. Every Change Collective Member starts with a six-month leadership journey, and applications for the next Fellowship cohort are currently open. 📨

Fellows build a Civic Action Plan tackling a local issue, then graduate to join the Membership Network. Apply now at the 🔗 in bio! Spotlight graphic for the Change Collective. It features a photo of a person labeled as Dexter Mason, Executive Director. The text describes the Change Collective as a national network that aids local leaders in driving change through training, mentorship, and networking.

A couple of weeks ago, our founder and executive director wrapped up a 6-month leadership program with cohort members from a variety of fields. The Change Collective fellows for Spring 2026 included 120 members from Chicago, Detroit, Jackson, Memphis, and San Antonio. As a 2026 Fellow, Heather was a member of the second cohort in San Antonio.

Change Collective is a national network of local changemakers, bridging divides and solving problems at the local level.

The final Local Change Lab was hosted at the Spurs Impact Center and Heather made sure to sit in Tim Duncan’s seat in the media room to tap into that “Big Fundamental” energy before giving her Civic Action Plan pitch to expand Youth Do Vote’s Student Election Clerk Recruitment Program for the 2026-27 school year.

Thank you to @chngecollective for choosing to invest in San Antonio’s civic leaders and for building a collaborative network that will continue for years to come.

The National Change Lab takes place in Atlanta in November, so stay tuned!

Six months. Countless conversations. New relationships. One incredible journey. 💫

This past month, I officially completed the San Antonio Change Collective Fellowship — six months of learning how to turn ideas into action, build community-centered solutions, and create meaningful civic impact.

Along the way, I had the opportunity to meet so many incredible local leaders, changemakers, and community advocates who reminded me just how powerful it can be when we invest in people and the communities they call home.

I’ve also been quietly working on something I’m really excited about — something rooted in digital empowerment, access, and building an ecosystem where technology becomes a bridge instead of a barrier. 🌐

And one of my favorite full-circle moments? Seeing four individuals whose Civic Action Plans were supported through this fellowship ultimately develop work that intersects with the foster care space — a community that has shaped so much of my own journey. ❤️

There’s still work to do, and I’m just getting started.

San Antonio, I can’t wait to show you what’s next. 👀
