“So… this is it?” I asked, breaking a long silence that came from the mundane miles of highway trapped in a special kind of heat.
The previous 10 days had ultimately been pointing to this moment, to arrive this day, to ‘complete’ the crossing of Utah, but it didn’t feel like any triumph. No grandiose celebration. It was just another moment among the full experience that was in undertaking. No day more important than another.

It did allow for a few moments to try to process and remember what the fuck just happened over the last week and a half. All the climbs, high alpine meadows, sunrises, sunsets, conversations that made me laugh and the ones that made me cry, the river bank coffees, the curbside burritos, the @maverikadventure , the hours and hours to be in nature with yourself, the bug bites, the skin rash, sunburns, river baths, and nothing like finding a good wash for the boys to sleep in.

A few hell yeah’s and other pleasantries were exchanged, but mainly, we didn’t really say much. We grabbed a quick snack, took a few portraits to mark the occasion and that was that. Straight into a normal afternoon and back to “normal” life the next day.

@chrisburkard sent over the camera roll from his 8-day, 800 mile bikepacking sojourn across Utah’s most remote mountain ranges, and brought his El Jefe equipped with @wolf_tooth_comp MK0 components along for the ride.

Join me for a bikepacking 101 clinic at @boulderbicycleworks where you’ll learn about gear, routes, packing, and more. And we’ll inspire you with tales of adventure, to help you plan your next trip. The evening will help support the work of @bikepackingroots, the only national advocacy organization working in support of bikepacking and bikepackers. To help support its summer fundraiser, please consider donating.

When the bikepacking trip makes it out of the chat.

@kartermachen and co's recent ride across Utah was two parts side quests, one part bike ride. The dream ratio.

We all love a good ride, but it's the river swims, roadside snoozing and dirtbag dinners that bring a trip to life.

Consider this your public service announcement: make that ride happen.

Who's got a trip brewing?
