SAMSARA JADE | NZFW 2026

He toi tuku iho. He toi ora.

An expression of all that has come before us, and all that is yet to become.

Rooted in whakapapa, a reminder of the profound connection we hold to our whenua, our tīpuna, and one another.

A connection that transcends time, place and space. Woven into who we are.

A beautiful moment sharing our stories, our taonga, and the living legacy of Māori artistry upon the runway at New Zealand Fashion Week.

Ko koe te whenua. Ko te whenua ko koe. 🤎

Look Rua - Mai i Te Pō ki Te Ao Marama

Kia whakatomuri te haere whakamua
I walk backwards into the future with my eyes fixed on my past

Miriana wears the Grace dress, Te Ao shirt and models own taonga

taonga pūoro: poiāwhiowhio made by Miriana McGechie @chur2that

Having my models wear their own taonga is a practice I have continued since I first shot this collection. It is so important to me that the people who are willing to embody my work are seen and celebrated. Forever grateful for those who have shared part of their story to help me tell mine.

On Friday we wished our “summer” intern Katya mā te wā 👋😭

Katya came to Aotearoa from the UK (hence the “summer” intern phrasing), offering her knowledge, skills, and humour to our team.

Some more highlights from her time at YANZ were facilitating our Youth Week Mural, sharing YANZ’s kaupapa at a high school Community Expo Day, and creating a zine highlighting some of our YANZ rangatahi stories!

The zine is set to be published very soon, so keep an eye out for that 👀

On her last day we sent Katya off with warm wishes from our team and Freelancer Friday community - thanks to everyone who came along that day 💻💕

We miss you Katya!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a freakin show and I’m absolutely honored to have the chance to be part of it. It was beautiful, angelic and c*nty at the same time.

Thank you Flos for creating such a safe and fun environment to work in, super proud of the show you produced.

Thank you Chloe for trusting me and letting me bring your art to life. You already know how much I adore your work, and to be part of it means everything.

So much love to the crews who worked so hard to make this happen and also the energy from the audience. LOVE LOVE AND ONLY LOVE 🫶🏼

Truly a beautiful and inspiring week with @ahuaaotearoa ✨

The biggest thank you to the ĀHUA Marketing team, Paris and Suin, you are both production machines and it was a joy to work with you. To the other photographers in the team, weeeeeee thank you thank you you’re all so talented, positive and easy to shoot with! It felt like a dance with you backstage!! Thank you to the H&MUA teams as well, I loved running around after you with my phone light for last min touch ups.

And of course, THANK YOU TO THE MODELS!! You all are the real MVPs of the season, thank you for your patience, willingness, and excitement. Watching you all in your element was incredible 💖💖

AND THE CLOTHES! THE FASHION! THE DESIGNERS!

I got to take out the @fujifilmxseriesnz XT50 for a spin the week of ĀHUA and I’m very grateful to the Fujifilm team for placing such a beautiful camera in my hands
