Why do calves need to be the ultimate waste product for milk? Not just cheap milk - expensive, organic, biodynamic milk. What is the difference between ethical and organic or any other milk? Let’s chat…. We don’t remove calves at birth - read that again slowly…. It is considered normal practice to scoop up a newborn calf and remove it from the mum immediately after birth. It’s calving time right now and abattoirs are processing thousands of 5 day old babies constantly. Have you been told cows are crap mums? Cows are well known to chase after their calves, but they get bullied away from them and pushed out to a paddock. They can bellow for days. Often calf sheds are close to the dairy so every time she comes in to be milked she calls for her calf and it calls back - all in vain. Why is this still normal practice? So if you’re into eating pasture raised eggs and chicken, free range pork, can we help you make a kinder dairy choice? We don’t remove the calves - they stay with their own mum and we share the extra milk. we don’t send our calves off at 5 days old, to be trucked all over the country before being slaughtered. Some days there’s nothing that can be done except sit in a paddock, get some slobbering, licks and love from the gals and hit reset. It’s the place l go when I need to remind myself why we put ourselves through the madness of owning a small business. So much change is happening all around us and we can’t control any of it. I still pinch myself that our tiny milk brand is going strong 7 years later. Starting with 18 cows and a dream to do dairy differently. A city girl at the helm who’d never milked a cow, or ran a dairy, but had determination in buckets. And along the way I found my people - all of you 🙏🤎🐮. I can never imagine doing anything else. As always I ask you to be my marketing team. Convert a friend, family member or a neighbour or pay it forward to a random person. We love cafe crawling with our sons, and a few of you have asked where we take them! My boys absolutely adore Japanese breakfasts, so here are three of our favourites. 🤍✨ All three serve fresh, delicious food in clean, spacious settings, with the loveliest, most understanding staff - which is such a big part of enjoying a meal out with little ones! 🍚 Cibi - Collingwood ✨ This is the closest to us, making it an easy pre-soccer breakfast outing. We usually order the breakfast sets for the boys to share, then finish with a yuzu palmier! 🍙 279 - West Melbourne ✨ This one is special to us as my first born has been here since he was a baby, he basically grew up here 🥲. My sons specifically ask to come here for their musubis. The rice is perfect and the seaweed so crispy! 🍱 Ima Asa Yoru - Brunswick ✨ This is my husband’s favourite, and the boys love it too. Their teishoku sets are generous, beautifully presented and so tasty. The boys love sharing them with us - and their favourite bit is the pickled vegetables!
