(日本語あり↓)Yanaka is the only place that survived Great Kanto earthquake and 1944 bombings and still has presence of shitamachi. although the real shitamachi was located far in Sumida. #yanakaginza #谷中 #谷中銀座 #東京観光 #tokyo Shitamachi was a working class area in Edo’s Tokyo, where craftsmans, traders and other non-noble people lived together. It was a melting pot for local Tokyo culture which gave birth to enormous variants of Tokyo arts including edo kiriko glass. Let’s explore the Yanaka area to feel the real Japanese past. A home and a studio of one of the most famous sculptors in modern Japan, Asakura Fumio The place consists of two buildings - western-styled studio and Japan-styled house, inviting to the intriguing journey not only to Asakura’s art world but also to the everyday life of people in prewar Japan. One of the most famous art galleries in Tokyo is located in the former bathhouse aka sento. SCAI is the powerful place which gives a shine to emerging artists and makes shine brighter the established artists. Don’t miss Mariko Mori exhibition which opened here as a collaboration event to the big Mori exhibition starting this October in Mori Museum @moriartmuseum A cozy cafe with Western-styled breakfasts and brunches focusing on local products and cuisine. A great place you can paint your own maneki neko. Located in an old Japanese house with 90-year old history, it allows you to experience the creative history of Yanaka in physical way. Surprised? This cemetery is not only the last home for the last of the Tokugawa family which ruled Japan for centuries, but also is a popular sakura viewing spot in Tokyo. A cozy bookstore with a small garden outside.
