A cruel, senseless game of vanity aimed at young, naive women created by young, unruly marines turns into an unexpected connection formed between marine Eddie Birdlace (@james.__.ross) and waitress Rose Fenny (@juliamaclean) in JBM Theatre’s debut production of Dogfight. Directed by Cathy Wilmot (@cathywilmot), the musical runs until October 18th at the Waterfront Theatre. However, while the production features compelling acting, profound storytelling, and exciting musical numbers, the show unfortunately begins losing its spark in the second act. Lead actors James Ross (as Eddie Birdlace) and Julia MacLean (as Rose Fenny) demonstrate incredible acting chemistry, crafting a deeply genuine bond on stage. Ross acts with an impressive range, capturing Eddie’s initial rowdy marine energy with a conviction that the audience deeply feels. Meanwhile, MacLean portrays Rose’s innocence and vulnerability with raw, unfiltered depth. Taylor McKee’s (@taylor_mckeee) stellar musical direction covers a wide range of styles, from high-energy songs to quiet, jazzy acoustic melodies. This musical contrast perfectly mirrors the story’s 1963 setting on the eve of the Vietnam War. Notable highlights include the energetic pop-rock anthem “Hey Good Lookin’,” led by Eddie, Boland (@connor.hawk), and Bernstein (@cdyks), and the heartbreaking acoustic ballad “Pretty Funny,” performed by Rose. Complementing the score, Jamie MacLean’s (@_jaime_olivia_) choreography added a striking visual touch, most notably during “Hometown Hero’s Ticker Tape Parade,” which featured high-energy, intensely athletic, and militaristic dance styles. While the first act is lively and engaging, the second act suffers from…(tap link in bio for more) 📸: Mia Sage (@arts_death_, @deadsparrowtheatre)

Legally Blonde I had a full on blast working on such a high energy show. Starting the rehearsal process with the Choreo of Whipped Into Shape set the bar of how crazy the whole show was gonna be. From having up to 7 key changes per song, playing the snare drum in the middle of a choreo to then do a quick change in less than 30 seconds or learning how to Irish dance, every second of this show was incredibly fun to be in And the while time all these shenanigans were happening, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by an incredibly talented group of people who made me laugh, helped me catch up when I was behind, made me go for run for the first time ever and matched my unhinged humor, all while performing the songs and choreography with such heart and energy that overall made the show and extraordinary experiences for me. Love you all :) And a final thank you to the team at @metrotheatre for once again opening the doors for me. Being the place where I am honoured to say I participated in my first ever production outside of my home country, I always will be delighted to come back as this place has a big place in my heart. Thank you for trusting me one more time. 🩷🤍🩷 Director: @chriskingcreative Music Director: @marquisxbyrd Choreographer: @makaylajeanmoore Stage Manager: @emeliafindlay AD: @chrisward101 📸: @moonriderpo

Goodbye to Indigo Woods and to our favourite camp counselors. Just over a week ago we closed The Grown-ups by Simon Henriques and Skylar Fox at this year’s @vancouverfringe 💙 Thank you to everyone who came out to see the show, to the volunteers, and to the festival staff for making this such an amazing experience. We are so so proud of the show and we feel so lucky we got to share it! We are also so incredibly honoured to have been recognized as runner-up for Best of the Fest! To our cast and crew, we couldn’t have done this without you and we are so thankful for your time and energy and trust in Lexacon and this project! Hopefully, this is the first of many exciting to things come! We’ll be back soon :) Love, Alexa & Conor (aka Lexacon)
