What I mean by this 👇 When we hear “romance” we almost always think about romantic love shared between two people. But what about everything else in life that can be romantic? This is a dance that was filled with all kinds of romance between two platonic friends - between the people, the music, the dance, the experience we were sharing in a new city, and this beautiful moment never would have happened if we confined ourselves to the definition of stereotypical romance. You can experience love and romance in every aspect of your life - movement, art, relationships, travel, your relationship with yourself. This year has been big on pouring into myself and the things that fulfill me and I can’t wait to continue to carry that into future chapters of my life 🫂 #conflowdance #romanticizelife #platoniclove #bachata #danceconnection

Being a great dancer and being a great instructor are TWO DIFFERENT SKILL SETS. I’ve seen class demos turn into social dance showcases, choreography that isn’t always applicable on the dance floor, and students being told to “fake it till you make it” instead of getting an actual answer. And listen, I’ve been guilty of that last one too! 😭 But the more I’ve developed as an educator, the more I’ve realized that teaching comes with a responsibility. Choreography and class material should serve different purposes. That’s why I’ve intentionally shifted away from patterns and started focusing more on CONCEPTS. Musical awareness. Body movement. Connection. Technique. Understanding the WHY behind what you’re doing. Because I don’t want my students leaving class knowing how to copy ME. I want them understanding how to dance for THEMSELVES. ❤️ A pattern gets you through a song. A concept gives you something you can apply for a lifetime. One thing dancing has taught me about life, is that resilience isn’t about never falling. It’s about finding the strength to keep moving. Some days you feel unstoppable. Other days, simply getting out of bed feels like an accomplishment. Some days you’re in your FLOW. Other days, you’re just trying to make it through the song. BOTH COUNT. Because consistency isn’t about showing up at your best every single day. It’s about showing up even when things aren’t going your way. Even when you’re tired. Even when you’re frustrated. Even when life feels like it’s throwing EVERYTHING at you. You keep going. You keep learning. You keep choosing yourself. It grew up on patios and in colmados in the Dominican Republic, shaped by the music first and the steps second. IntensiveX: Back to the Roots is our return to that starting point. Over three days we’re asking one question: what changes when you understand where a movement comes from, not just how it looks? Luis Talavera, Sabrina Con Flow, and Nicole Diaz are coming at that question from three directions. Luis brings Afro-Latin and urban foundations, Sabrina brings musicality and performance, and Nicole brings traditional & fusion structure and partnership. Together that’s 10+ hours of music, history, solo work, and partnerwork, with each session building on the one before.
