Happy #womensequalityday 🎉

A BIKE IS NOT JUST A BIKE written by moi illustrated by @michellepereira.illustration and published with @gloobooks is the perfect way to celebrate!

This book is the sparse, lyrical story of how the bicycle helped to usher in the Women’s Revolution.

The bicycle offered women a newfound mobility that gave them more freedom and ultimately helped women gain the right to vote by getting the word out!

And since then amazing women like

40 years ago, they made Tour de France history during the first week of the 1986 edition:
➡️ Alex Stieda 🇨🇦, the first North American rider to wear the yellow jersey
➡️ Davis Phinney 🇺🇸, winner of stage 3 and the first North American rider to win a road stage of the Tour de France (Greg LeMond won the time trial on Stage 21 of the 1985 Tour)

Exactly 40 years ago, on July 6, 1986, Davis Phinney 🇺🇸 won in Liévin, the sprint for Stage 3 of the 1986 Tour de France, finishing ahead of Henk Boeve 🇳🇱, Robert Dill-Bundi 🇨🇭, Charly Mottet 🇫🇷, and his other breakaway companions 👊

Just 24 hours after Alex Stieda’s historic yellow jersey, another American rider left his mark on the 1986 Tour de France 🍾

On another plan flying back across the Atlantic after a lovely but quick two weeks in USA. Thanks @ride_bmc for convincing me to come out for MUDBOUND FUNBOUND and giving me an excuse to spend a few days in boulder (even if one of those days was in fact spent purging the experience…) ++ the cherry on top, time in Madison for cousin Russell’s nuptials. Always fantastic to get the cousins together :) and to see my seeeeester @kelseyphinnsta 💚🤸

One time back in 2015, I rode my bike up Red Rock mountain with Davis and Connie. I was struggling climbing the incline while David was chatting with me on a rented bike and wearing vans while I was fully clipped in and pumping my legs away. Meanwhile, Connie said, “I’ll ride ahead and see what’s up there.” Then casually rode ahead pulling away (also on a rented bike) from us. I had just ran 3 marathons in 3 months including my fastest ever and that moment taught me the gaps between Elite athletes and us regular folks are massive. Even with Parkinson’s Davis’s training still kept that gap.

He has been through some rough times if you guys follow his journey and his foundation. And even through those times, he has managed fight, educate, and inspire those in the Parkinson’s community. I myself have thought about Davis during some rough times and he has helped me through them. It was great to see him at @worldpdcongress and it was also great seeing Connie’s infectious smile and energy.

There are no topics that are off limits for Mike and me – sometimes they are funny, sometimes uncomfy, sometimes scary but we try to put it all out there.

I loved this part of my conversation with Connie because it’s so helpful to hear from other perspectives too.

Being a caregiver is often a thankless job. One that requires a level of patience I have never, and could never have. I am impressed every single day at the way Mike rises to the challenges we face and I’ll never take it for granted.

If you are a care partner and you need resources, please look at the Davis Phinney Foundation website. There are support groups, webinars, meet-ups and more! Don’t suffer alone or in silence. That will only make this already difficult journey harder.

#ThrowbackThursday to 30 years ago when teamwork made the dream work.

The unrelenting effort of teammate Brian Walton in the finale capped the amazing team effort of the prior six hours, ending with a well timed attack right as we caught Lance resulting in victory.

Throwback to one of my favourite shoots with @lululemon back in 2016, which somehow feels like another lifetime.

Photographing people doing what they love has always been the focus of my work. Now that I’m easing back into creating again, I keep finding myself revisiting the images that shaped me. It took way longer than I ever expected to return to this space, and some days it still feels surreal that I get to hold a camera again.

So as I build new bodies of work and capture people in their element, I’ll also be sharing some of the moments that brought me here.

Starting it off with @evelyn_stevens a world class cyclist out for a rip before the Rio Olympics, alongside @conniecarp — a mentor and icon in the cycling world. It was an honour to witness and document moments like this. 📸🤍
