At our Museum, we spend a lot of time thinking about all of the amazing things the body can do. And while our primary way of honoring the things the body can do is through our collection, another way that we appreciate the body and its mechanics is through hosting performances.

Performance - whether musical, theatrical, or other - is a highly physical act that engages the mind and the muscles, bringing together an audience for an artistic moment of community. From virtuosic performances to performances that directly engage ideas around health and human performance we at IMSS are grateful to be able to expand conversations had around health in this perhaps unexpected way and are so appreciative to the folks who have brought our spaces alive with movement and sound. We are also grateful to all of you who attend our programs and make it possible for us to continue to offer these conversations.

Ok, let’s try this again. We’ve got an incredible CLEAT Series this Saturday that we had to reschedule from last Friday. We’re even more excited now for Allen Moore and Post Consumer Material in 16 channels. It’s a Saturday night! We’ll recap the details below!

This Saturday we’ll hear new work from Allen Moore and Post Consumer Material. Moore has experimented on the system a few times before, bringing his homemade records and sampled electronics through 16 channels. This time he presents a new piece titled ‘The Black Arcade’ that will dive further into his exploration of historical sounds and their context in today’s social, political, and artistic climate. Post Consumer Material is presenting on the CLEAT system for their first time with a piece titled ‘FULL-TIME’. Spanning video, performance, interactive software, and spatialized sound, ‘FULL-TIME’ explores the individual as laborer, subject, and ultimately human in a society dominated by the logic of production. Drawing upon Georges Bataille’s concept of sovereignty and Byung-Chul Han’s psychopolitics, ‘FULL-TIME’ confronts the brittle contradictions of this system, its self-destruction already underway, and the unknown states that might follow. We’re excited to see how these two wonderful artists approach spatial audio on the CLEAT system! See you here Saturday at 8pm!

We were excited to bathe in 16 channels of sound with you all tonight from Allen Moore and Post Consumer Material, but the stars and snowflakes just didn’t align. In an abundance of caution for everyone’s safety, we’re going to postpone tonight’s CLEAT Series show to next Saturday January 20th (when it’ll likely be 60 degrees and sunny 😎). Please tell any friends that were planning to meet you here and we’ll see you next Saturday 1/20 @ 8pm! Heavensware tomorrow (this Saturday night) is still on if you need your electronic music fix, and Sunday we’ll have our AfriClassical Futures Series at 4pm with Yaw, Ben LaMar Gay, Sharon Udoh, Eva Supreme, and Angel Bat Dawid. We’ll see you all soon, stay warm!
