SCENES FROM 12 BAR 📸
(W.E. 12.06.26)

A few moments from this week in our little corner of Exeter 💛

Well that was another busy one!

We kicked off with a few cheeky staff drinks after our monthly team meeting (bonus points if you can name where we went).

The Sew Social crew were back for their monthly creative meetup—always lovely seeing the space filled with creativity and conversation.

Bingo Starr was back for its second outing! Prizes ranged from a packet of crisps to bottles of wine and unlimited coffees. Huge thanks to everyone who came down and helped make it such a fun evening.

Friday night brought Old Red Stone, and what a show it was. Beautiful songwriting, stunning arrangements—our particular favourite was their take on a Moorish traditional with harmonies they’d made entirely their own. That’s the kind of gig that reminds us why we do this.

Saturday afternoon saw John Bongo behind the decks, followed by Chesca and Dixie’s leaving bash in the evening. Come down and help us give them the send-off they deserve.

And Sunday? Our very first pop-up market, The Sunday Dig. Huge thanks to the Ciao Bella girls for coming down, and to everyone who popped by and picked up a pre-loved gem.

This all happens because of you. Our community makes it possible. Thank you for being part of what we’re building. 💛

Yoga mats for those wanting to connect to the art in their own way , not my cup of tea and not all art can resonate with the soul .

Couldn’t help but be uplifted by the ironing board though .

Born in Beirut in 1978, Al Solh grew up during the civil war in Lebanon. This lived experience of conflict resurfaces throughout her work. She now lives and works between her homeland and the Netherlands, where she moved to attend the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, after studying both music and painting in Lebanon: “I looked at the horizon and dreamt of going away”.
A land as big as her skin moves between
Al Sol’s own personal memories and collective political moments, bringing the ancient and modern worlds directly into conversation. Her multi-disciplinary practice begins with revisiting and subverting her ancestral mythology - exploring the seafaring Phoenicians - in the installations A Dance with her Myth, Elissa’s Room and Europa’s Bedroom.

Just 2 friends meeting in Bristol to share some art and have a good old catch up …. Such a wonderful exhibit at @spikeisland

In their words Phillip Lai’s Rain / Ruin

Within this interplay of forms, ideas around the materiality of time, of the proximal and the remote, and of surplus, excess and destruction are quietly held in tension. Made using varied materials such as wax, stainless steel, concrete, resin and burnt wheat, Lai’s sculptures are the result of many slow, attentive processes. He isolates moments of sculptural potential within everyday objects, often by intervening into the industrial processes used to make them. These interventions effect a transformation in the object - a shift, a turn, a slippage - that erodes the logic of its material grammar and leaves you wondering what, exactly, you are looking at.

Great #RISO session yesterday! A good mix of seasoned professionals and have-a-go heroes…

Always good to welcome new faces - @artclubdevon and @cwprintmaker as well as repeat offender @t000.7.0 and not-his-first-rodeo @speckprints

A nice selection of approaches and outcomes, using our stock of post-consumer waste paper and of course printed with environmentally friendly soya inks…
