#u250 ✨ MYSTERIOUS WAYS ✨

Congratulations to contemporary dance choreographer, Morleigh Steinberg for her curated presentation “Dance and Eye,” currently on view @chateaulacoste.

The dance performed by OGURI is in movement together with 5 different photographers, Andrew Macpherson, Richard Nielsen, Atiba Jefferson, Ricardo Vidana, Tali Maranges, in separate distinct points of view. The two mediums intersect, interweave and respond to one another both in tension and harmony. The influence of Mono-ha (もの派) is ever present, one of the most important developments in postwar Japanese contemporary art. The ideas strongly influenced body-based, spatial and performative practices in Japan and emerged partly in reaction to the increasingly manufactured, image-driven nature of modern society. Their preoccupations were driven by the body in space, the relationship between objects, bodies and environments, the duration and the experience of time, minimal actions rather than theatrical narrative and the critical distinction between doing something and simply being present.

“To be able to see things that are visible, but no one is seeing, is a poem.” Hiroshi Osada, poet (1939-2015)

Thank you to all the artists, it has been a privilege to witness your performance both in documentation and nature.

DANCE AND EYE
Oguri

Curated by @cyanmogi

“In my creative process, I don’t rely on themes or concepts to make dances, but rather focus on objects considered in a space/time axis or images I have in mind. If the dance is a collaboration, my partner may shake-in an unexpected idea, demanding an immediate action in response. Scooping up and sifting material is the inspired dance that occurs spontaneously during creation. It is the essence of improvisation. This exhibit and book of photography captures the improvisation in the act of taking a picture and the collaborative dance of the photographer and dancer.”

——-
