THE COMPASS
It stands for the direction, I have received from the different practices in my life.

Yoga and fitness
They have become my profession. They go hand in hand. As I I have healed physically, mentally and emotionally with the help of these practices. They have also given me discipline, focus, determination and brought about healthy lifestyle changes. I came across yoga and fitness around the same time. Both of these practices have helped me become fitter, smarter and an evolved individual.

DMT and Psychology
Dance Movement Therapy as well as the knowledge of psychology has brought about a balance in my life. As I finished the Diploma in DMT, not only did I develop as a therapeutic practitioner, I also grew as an individual learning new healthy coping mechanisms. I have learnt a lot of skills through my graduation (majoring in psychology). The most essential being empathy and sensitivity.

In March 2014, I suffered through an accident, when a rickshaw came and hit my knee, leading to a ligament tear.

After 3 months of bed rest and popping of pain killers, I had gained an additional 10 kgs along with dropping my morale.

I was planning on learning dance professionally, so that went for a toss! I was in a lot of pain (physically and emotionally). I couldn't workout much or walk too much even, as it would put pressure on the knee. I couldn't sit in a cross legged position or keep my legs folded for too long either. This went on for a while.....

Come October 2014. I entered The Yoga Institute. I had free time (since I wasn't dancing). I decided to do the Yoga Teacher's Training Course.

A year later, as I leaped out of the institute with a certificate in hand. I had dropped more than 10 kgs. My knee pain was almost non existent, and I was happy.

I've always thought that the knee injury, along with the pain and discomfort would be something that I would have to live with for the rest of my life. I never really thought that my knee would heal or the pain would go away, neither did I actively work or do particular asanas to reduce the pain. The healing (along with many other benefits) was just a byproduct of the sadhana. Yoga is beautiful practice.

Hi! My name is Adrak.
I am a ginger cat.
I came into this world 8 months ago, I don't look like a kitten because I'm very long like a snake. I used live on the streets, until my mom @dahm_mini rescued me .

I have been dancing since I can remember (junior kg maybe). I have experienced different kinds of dance forms (bharatanatyam, jazz, contemporary, ballet, hip-hop) but it was less about the training and more about how I felt when I danced, and it always touched a part of me that I could never put into words.

More importantly, I was able to express things/emotions that just couldn't articulate.

I felt happy, I danced it out.
I felt hurt, I danced it out.
I felt angry, I freaking danced it out.

And this practice got stronger as I completed my course in Dance Movement Therapy (from TISS)

DANCE TAUGHT ME TO RELEASE MY BOTTLED UP EMOTIONS, IT TAUGHT ME TO EXPRESS IN WAYS I COULDN'T IMAGINE!!

"I had been suffering from irregular periods for over 6 years!
They would come once in 3 months, and last 15-20 days at a stretch.
Apart from this, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) has many other symptoms like a tendency to gain weight, losing hair, acne etc.
There was only one allopathic medication, that is taking contraceptive pills.
But it wasn't a cure, because the moment you stop taking them your symptoms come back.
Hence, I had accepted PCOS as a part of my life.

I had come to @theyogainstituteofficial to learn what yoga is. But yoga gave me the biggest gift in my life! It healed me in ways I didn't think was possible!
As a part of my course schedule, I had to practice asanas everyday in the institute.
Slowly, I started enjoying doing asanas and started practicing them at home on my own. After around 6 months of practice, I started noticing my period cycle getting regularised. They were coming every month, and lasting only a week. That's when I started concentrating on practicing asanas meant to help my condition, I started believing!

Now it's been 5 years that my cycle has regularised without the help of any medication!

YOGA HELPED CURE MY PCOS. It healed a syndrome that I once thought was incurable! That is the power of practice, belief and yoga!"

The Healing Compass is an initiative by Damini Kanekar (@dahm_mini) "I believe that the Healing Compass started from being a part of me. An aspect of me that tried to find a direction and sought healing.

Now, it is a forever expanding collective, that comprises of the knowledge that I have gained about health and wellness throughout my life.

It is a holistic approach. An amalgamation of my experiences in dance, movement, therapy, fitness and yoga."
