As some of you know I’m to a uni to do a module in Sport Physiology to try and understand testing a little better.

I won’t lie it was pretty scary and I feel quite old (no one else had a notebook 😂). I’m quite overwhelmed by studying and reading journals again. And now there is AI now also to help me, which didn’t exist before.

I didn’t make a complete tit out of myself which is a bonus. And everyone on the course seems sound.

Open day photos of doing the VO2 max demo with Josh. I almost look like I know what I’m doing! 😅🤫

It was really cool to show people how the test was done from start to finish. To see that no, we don’t let people fall off a treadmill and that the speed is very personal and tailored to the person running.

I repeat. No one is falling off a treadmill.

The results will show Vo2 max scores, heart rate, training zones, how quickly the participant is breathing and how much air is coming in.

I’ll also do a gait analysis video whilst they are running to see if there’s any technical improvements that can be done.

All in all takes 10min for a warm up and between 8-15min for the test.

The mask seems a little scary, it’s honestly not. Personally I found I could breathe totally normal in it and had zero restrictions, it did get a little hot in there.

If you are a slow runner we start super slow or even walk, if you’re quick we adapt accordingly. As long as you’re fit and healthy and can run for about 20min you’re good to go.

Bosh 👊🏼

It’s pretty fun, and I love looking at the data with the athlete after to see what they do.

If you fancy having a go and want to improve your running, drop me a message or book a vo2 max test on the website www.bodyhealthgatwick.co.uk.

You’ll need to be fasted 3 hours prior (water before is fine) and 24hours clear of heavy exercise so you can get the best results.

We are super excited to launch our first ever open day at Body Health!

This event will showcase some of our skills and also show you how cool we are really 😎. (Well we think so!).

Due to the size of the venue it will be ticketed and the link is in the bio. Don’t worry it will be completely free. And there will be some very tasty discounts to those who attend on the day!

We will be joined all day by @body.dexa & @fitnessgenes who do some very very cool things and will be available for chats and demos on the day.

Session 1 - Learn to Lift/ Olympic Lifting.
@coachpaulwalshe will take you through how to lift weights safely and debunk some gym myths. @engageweightlifting will have a class to attend with coach Danielle to learn how to put a barbell above your head.

Session 2 Sports Massage & Injury Testing
@essex_athletic_rehab_bhg will show you how we use the VALD technology to assess imbalances and force in the body and how we use that information in real life. Danielle will be upstairs doing and teaching how to do a sports massage and what we do in an initial assessment appointment.

Session 3 VO2 max demo
This is your chance to see what a VO2 max test is. Also we get to run Josh really fast. We will run through his data after so you can see all the results that you would get from the test.

The booking links are in the bio and it’s max 30/ session.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Is running good for thai boxing.

Simple answer, I think so, yes.

Can you do other cardio build methods, also yes.

If you want strong legs and a good tank behind you, it’s probably helpful.

Debate away in the comments.

And book a VO2 max test with me if you’re curious. 😉

Not sure who needs to hear this…

Abs are abs. If I cut weight… squint a little through my left eye I can semi achieve them myself 😂. (Also after a sauna and dehydration )

Then I eat and poof they are gone. And I kinda like food to be honest.

Doesn’t mean they aren’t there.

Let’s change the narrative from comparison and aesthetics to being strong, capable and quite frankly able to do cool shit.

Want to be strong and perform. Drop me a dm.

4.5 months. One full fight camp. A lot of work. 📈

I recently went back to @bodyhealthgatwick to repeat my VO₂ max and VALD force plate testing with Danielle, after initially testing in mid-March.

The good news? My VO₂ max has increased by 6.7 mL/kg/min — a pretty significant improvement over the last 4.5 months.

A big thank you to @coach_manowar for the strength & conditioning work, particularly the red-zone running and sprint intervals after strength sessions, which have helped move my aerobic fitness forward.

And of course, a huge thank you to everyone at @21stcenturycombat for the work that goes into the other side of my preparation — the rounds, pads, sparring, clinching and everything else that makes up a fight camp. 🥊

The testing also highlighted some areas that still need work. My general strength is looking pretty good, but my maximal force production, rate of force development and reactive strength/power are areas where there’s plenty of room for improvement.

My single-leg rebound jump was a particularly humbling 5th percentile 🫠😂

But honestly, this is exactly why I like testing as it gives us objective data on where I’m improving, where I’m falling short and, most importantly, what we need to change in the programme moving forwards. We can now make my strength programme more specific to my deficits and the physical qualities I need for Muay Thai.

I’d highly recommend this kind of testing to any athlete or sports person, as having targeted metrics can be incredibly useful — but the numbers mean very little if you don’t know what to do with them.

The real value comes from working with someone who can interpret the results and turn them into a plan.

Thanks again @bodyhealthgatwick @daniellepeters_training for the testing, @coach_manowar for the S&C work, and @21stcenturycombat for the fight preparation. Lots achieved this camp, and plenty more to work on. 🥊
