Did you know that many artists and creatives are not included in the Gig Workers Act? So was your "Abang and Akak Grab" But what changed? The journey towards Malaysia’s Gig Workers Act didn’t happen overnight. Grab and other e-hailing drivers had been organising for years around issues like fair fares, working conditions and social protection. In 2024, the government began formal consultations for a dedicated Gig Workers law. When the Bill was tabled in 2025, there was concern that e-hailing and p-hailing workers weren’t explicitly listed in the Schedule, raising questions over whether Grab drivers were covered. After clarification and debate, the Act was passed, gazetted on 31 December 2025, and came into force on 31 March 2026. Today, Grab drivers are covered as platform gig workers, with protections including clearer service agreements, SOCSO coverage, safeguards around deactivation and access to dispute resolution. What about the labour within the art ecosystem? Artwork by /Karya dibuat oleh: @daniellelinart

The students refine their ideas by absorbing perspectives from their surroundings, reflecting and deliberating until memories and intended emotions begin to emerge within their artworks. With each new layer, they build upon their original conception, enriching the work along the way until even the faint spark of its origin may become lost. We look forward to welcoming you to MOSAIC and sharing these meaningful conversations with our artists and students! 🎨✨ #fineart #arttalk #diplomashow #MIAInsta

“THE SNARE STILL RINGING – A TRIBUTE TO BUDEN”successfully launched on Saturday, 15 August 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Galeri Puteh. This meaningful exhibition celebrates the our late Mr Samsudin Wahab (Sir Buden) former lecturer of the MIA Fine Art Department. Featuring works by many established and emerging artists, the exhibition brings together a heartfelt tribute to an important artist in our country and educator in MIA whose presence and influence continue to inspire generations and celebrated by the lectures and students from various semesters. May this exhibition not only honour Buden’s legacy, but also inspire everyone to explore, create and continue the spirit of art in their own artistic journey. 🎨✨ The snare may have stopped, but its ringing continues. #TributeToBuden #galeriputeh #miainsta #malaysianinstituteofart

To everyone who walked into pangkin@ejklsseni for Pentasnita: Wisterias of Tomorrow, thank you. Six stories, one stage: every one of them written, performed, and built by women telling the truths they don't always get room to tell. And by all of you, who showed up and let these women be seen. This is the first cycle of Pentasnita. It won't be the last. To our playwrights, cast, and crew, thank you for trusting Seniwati with your work. To our audience, thank you for trusting us with your time. More to come. 🌸 📸 : @hans.photographic #Seniwati #Pentasnita #WisteriasOfTomorrow #WomenInTheatre #KLTheatre

Everyone calls themselves an artist these days. To an untrained eye, every drawing and painting on earth automatically earns its creator a spot on the walls of the nearest art gallery. Art has evolved a lot throughout the course of history, and we love it for that. However, the downside to the radical expansion and democratization of the term “art” is that anything can now be considered art – so anyone can claim to be an artist. So to answer the question of who exactly gets to be called an artist, I like to use the chef analogy. “But some art that these professionals make doesn’t even make any sense.” “But making art is supposed to be for fun. Why should there be a difference between professionals and hobbyists?” You can read further by clicking this link https://www.artomovement.com/2026/07/who-gets-to-call-themselves-artist-by.html or click the link on our bio. A girl who struggles to follow her desires, in fear of being “disobedient” and disappointing her family. Despite knowing her needs and desires to thrive - as a daughter, she is expected, and limited to the (Asian) formula of life - getting a stable government job, getting married, staying with family for the rest of her life. Her life plans includes throwing all this out of the window, but will she be able to listen to her heart, and live a fulfilling (although unpredictable and unstable) life as she wishes?
