To celebrate our seventh year of being married @_adam_porterfield_ and I took a one night staycation on a weeknight at @cascadapdx
Staying on a weeknight was great, we practically had the space all to ourselves.

We walked over from our house, which is only a few blocks away in a great location in the Alberta Arts District of Portland. We spent the day relaxing in the thermal pools, taking saunas and cold plunges, relaxing among the magical forest of plants. Connecting to ourselves and each other and revitalizing our togetherness.

It’s amazing how available connection is when you put down your phone, leave the mess of your house and check into a hotel for a night. @cascadapdx is more than just a hotel and we loved every detail of the space.
The food at the restaurants, the super comfortable beds. They are very aware of being healthy and Green and they take their sustainability very seriously. A sidenote is that I actually went to elementary school with the founder of Cascada and recently was invited to participate in an art show there and my artwork is now part of the permanent collection of the hotel! It’s all full Circle.
And when Adam and I thought about how we wanted to celebrate our seven years of being together, when this is a time in relationships that often there are a lot of struggles, the idea of just spending one night together without any disturbances, everything taken care of was absolutely a remarkable way to set the tone for the next stage of our togetherness.

Thank you @cascadapdx @danyafeltzin for an unforgettable experience. #cascadapdx

A little Portland café you’ll want to save for later. Stopped by @albertastcoffee , the café at @cascadapdx and it was such a lovely little find. The space is warm, calming, and so inviting. The kind of place that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile.

I ordered a matcha and chia seed pudding topped with fresh peaches, and both were SO good.

Between the beautiful atmosphere, delicious food, and relaxed energy, this is definitely somewhere I’d come back to.

If you’re in Portland, add this one to your list!

A wellness getaway in Portland that I already want to do again.

Spent the night at @cascada and somehow fit the perfect mix of movement, recovery, and relaxation into one incredible stay.

Waking up to the sunrise, starting my morning with an amazing HIIT class, exploring the stunning atrium pool, and spending the afternoon moving through the underground spa and outdoor thermal experiences.

And of course, finishing it all with a matcha and delicious chia pudding at Alberta Café.

As someone who spends so much time teaching, traveling, and moving, I love finding places that make it easy to take care of both mind and body.

One night wasn’t nearly enough.

Save this for your next Portland getaway.

FOOD/DRINK CRAWL ALERT!

One of my favorite (and I believe best) neighborhoods for food and drink is the ALBERTA ARTS DISTRICT!

Stop 1: @forbiddenfruitportland for “Green of Goddess” with pork (photo 6) and a half order of smoothie “Beowulf” (7) - FF (check out the interior shots, 1-5) is inside @cascadapdx which opened in March of 2025 - this hotel/spa has elevated the neighborhood and along with @terramaerestaurant has become a destination spot for the community at large. I would imagine it was a risky business decision that has turned out brilliantly 🎉🎉🎉#forbiddenfruit #cascadapdx

Stop 2: When I crave Spam Musubi, I go to @kaukau_pdx (8) #kaukaupdx

Stop 3: I love @greatnotion and their hazy IPAs are among the best in the state - Laser Wolf (9) #greatnotionbrewing

Stop 4: While not in Alberta Arts District, @ollinipdx is a go-to place for pastries including pain au chocolat (10) and the seasonal kouign amann called “dirt cup” with gummies (11) #pllinipdx

BEHIND THE SCENES of “Beneath the Surface.”

Words can’t describe how much joy even putting up this show gave me. The kind words were flowing, everyone worked effortlessly together, and this was the least stressed I have ever been before a show.

It took a small army to put this together and I’ll be forever grateful to each one of you.

Stay at @cascadapdx and you will feel every bit taken care of. I was lucky enough to have the biggest support system for the show- but kindness and pure joy radiate throughout this building.

BENEATH THE SURFACE

For one night, art, sound, texture and community took over CASCADA.

Nicole Hemmerly’s work is shaped by a decade of memory, landscape, music and experimentation. On opening night, those threads extended beyond the work itself, filling the room with the people, energy and creative spirit that make Portland what it is.

Thank you to everyone who came through, stayed awhile, looked closer and made the night what it became.

When we arrived at @cascadapdx, I was expecting it to be beautiful. What I wasn’t expecting was how healing the weekend would be for me. I’m leaving with a renewed sense of peace and clarity. The mental and physical reset I didn’t know I needed 🤍 #cascada #cascadapdx #spaweekend #healing #cascadapartner
