POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The National Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression national conference wrapped up yesterday with organisers, families, and survivors of police torture and wrongful conviction across the United States strategising and uniting on a course of action for the period ahead. As the racist and reactionary Trump agenda launches blow after blow against our communities, ramps up inhumane prison conditions, and emboldens police and ICE to turn racist traffic stops into death sentences, we need to sharpen the spear of our fight back and defend ourselves and our communities.

We take the example of Anthony Gay, who fought to free himself from wrongful conviction over $1.50, spent 22 years in solitary confinement, organised relentlessly to pave the way for others to free themselves from prison, and was ultimately killed in his fight to end solitary confinement—we may not get everything we fought for, but we fought for everything we got.

Join the fight to win community power over police and to free survivors of torture and wrongful conviction. Join a @nationalaarpr chapter near you. All power to the people!

WE’RE BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND !

Unfortunately, this will be the last Discotech in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future. It has been a pleasure to hear the impact this space has had on you all, and with the encouragement of a friend, we are bringing it to y’all one last time. If you’re new here, Discotech was founded to celebrate and bring awareness to house music’s roots in black culture. Having spaces that free us and remind us of our beauty and power are becoming increasingly more important. So join us in these trying times as we dance to the sounds of black artistry and experience a night of transcendence and community🫂
MUCH LOVE ❤️LET’S GET SWEATY

A few reminders from Duval Folx’s website, written by Geexella:

~share space / make space~

This is an intentional Black Queer space. Geexella the founder saw a gap in Jax, FL nightlife. This party is 100% grassroots and 100% Black and we want to make space for folx to be themselves and also share space with allies.

We ask allies who don’t identify as Black, Indigenous, or a POC to respect the space and be active in not participating in any micro or macroagressions.

~see something / say something~

Unfortunately space spaces can be mistaken as a space where zero harm happens. Since we live in a society built on terrible things like white supremacy, sometimes it can seep into our spaces. Let’s look out for each other. If we see something, say something!

~actively practice consent~

Dancing in Black and POC spaces can invite us to want to use our bodies to communicate. We want to invite everyone to ask before engaging in touching or dancing on folx. Consent is ongoing! Continue to check in with someone to make sure things are okay :)

~no DJ requests~

If you don’t like the music, go home. Period.

Let’s meet the djs 💿

🇵🇸 @djcommonjudgment 🪩

dj common judgment is a first generation Jamaicans-American poet and community actor from Queens, NY. They began their musical journey in an all-femme entertainment collective which threw sober parties centering BIPOC women’s bliss on a PWI campus in California. common judgment sets out to remind folx that artistry is a crucial tenet in our collective liberation, and without communal healing alongside our community work, we’re lost. They are inspired by the revolutionary nature of social gatherings and third spaces across freedom movements, especially juke joints of the 1920’s and dancehalls & project parties of the 1980’s and 1990’s. common judgment reveres our musical ancestors with classic house jams & legendary bashment tunes, and honors our imagined future with hip-hop & fusion records by girls, gays and theys of the global majority.

Song of the Week:
Solidão - DJ Perigroso (2020)
-
-
This song is a modern take on Kuduro—a genre birthed in Angola. The varying percussive elements speak to the rhythm of souls, supporting the main melody that you hear throughout the song. DJ Perigroso compositionally creates a cadence introducing brass instruments and crashes (a classic element in contemporary Kuduro tracks) to build and release. We are taken to the future, while paying homage to the past. 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽

HAVE YOU HEARD THE NEWS???
OUR NEXT EVENT IS FEB. 24TH!

We are teaming up with @duvalfolx @jaxpsn and @jaxtakesaction to stand in solidarity with Palestine!! 🇵🇸❤️We will have a resource village and screen printing on site (check our last collab post)
As Black folk, we’ve experienced and continue to experience the virus of imperialism and colonialism so it’s imperative that we make ourselves knowledgeable about what’s happening in Palestine and help where we can. Listen to a podcast, read articles from trusted sites, talk to friends who know what’s going on. There is too much information out there to remain ignorant.
Come out and support ! It will be a night to remember
