POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When “The Anime Band” first started, our then guest vocalist, @l2cmusic, said he would sing at the very first @animenightofficial event under one condition. That condition was that he sang Sonic Adventure 2’s “Escape From the City.”

Three years later, this very song has become a staple of our live performances both at Anime Night, and at conventions across the nation.

When we decided to release our cover of this song this past June, we knew we wanted to overhaul the visuals that played behind the band, but rather than rip something from YouTube or even try to capture our own footage we wanted to do something a bit different.

This band, and the Anime Night project as a whole has always been about supporting artists; musicians, illustrators, graphic designers, engineers alike. In this specific case we knew we wanted to take this a step further, and collaborate with a streamer we’ve met in our journeys across the country.

At @retrogamecon 2024, in Syracuse NY we met @jackattackdx - a NY based streamer, who has since become a friend to us in the band, and someone who has consistently supported us over the time we’ve known him. We asked Jack if he could attempt not only a speedrun of the City Escape level, but one that matches the length of its original song, “Escape From The City”. Admittedly, this is near impossible, but Jack got closer than we could have imagined.

After being given his footage, our video editor clipped it up into the visual we are sharing today to adapt to our live show, and then adding lyrics to a second cut of the video to adapt for a YouTube/streamable release.

Perhaps it’s a bit silly to release a cover of a song that’s been around for so long, or to adapt a lyric video to something so familiar to so many people. We may not have written this song, but it holds a special place in our hearts, and in our discography.

Our full cover of “Escape From the City” is streaming now anywhere you listen to music, and you can preview our collaborative video right here and watch in full at the link in our bio!

“Will reality bend if I confess my love for you?”

The next installment of our original English covers can now be heard on your favorite streaming platform featuring a faithful and endearing lyrical arrangement of the iconic “God Knows…” from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

If you liked “Again” and couldn’t wait to hear what we put out next, this is the song for you.

Happy 34th birthday to @djentlethaller 🖤 this picture accurately represents how overwhelmingly happy I am to be around Brian and excited when someone reminds me we’re together in the wild. (thank you @mcdonald.photo.pgh for capturing it during tekko!)

Since he apparently decided his 33rd year needed to include every possible side quest ever, here is just some of what he accomplished off the top of my head:

— Earned URM Silver
— Released an @adtr cover
— Won an official @metallica cover contest with the amazingly talented @luckybetband (like what?!)
— Mixed more music with Lucky Bet that is going to be siiiiiiick
— Released like over 9,000 anime covers and a whole EP with @shadowrealmmusic with a bunch more to come 🖤 (love you guys)
— Mixed @placeblamepgh’s new EP (it’s so good too, theyre so talented)
— Worked on a whole ass @dethlehem album that sounds gnarly as hell and is going to blow minds when it comes out (get excited)
— Played bass for approximately two days
— Had his busiest mixing year ever
— Interviewed Nolly of GGD/Periphery, which is like me sitting down with Lars to chat
— Worked with Chris from TGI and guest listed the show (insane)
— Helped bring in multiple $20 million grants at his actual job somehow? Because he has an actual day job that he also crushes.
— Served as a cat bed for at least 500 hours or more
— Watched all of Sailor Moon Crystal
— Watched all of Attack on Titan (RIP)
— Bought his first starter cosplay, which was of course Darth Vader
— Met Hayden Christensen, literally vader himself
— Got to see Marc-André Fleury play with the Pens again 🖤
— Survived one full year of Kpop Demon Hunters
— bonus: lost in connect four basketball to me at Dave and Buster’s (see last slide)

And that is absolutely still leaving things out and I can’t even count them all.

You have done so much this year, made so much incredible music, worked with so many talented people, and continued to somehow be excellent at every random thing you decide to do.

I am so proud of you, and I love getting to watch you keep becoming an even cooler, weirder, more talented version of yourself every year.

Happy birthday, Brian. I love you so much. 🖤

happy father’s day to brian, who became a cat dad not through planning or ambition, but because three small weirdos lived with me.

salem, sophie, and mia appreciate your service, even if they show it through screaming, staring, crimes, and treating your body like public infrastructure.

thank you for feeding them, enabling them, narrating their nonsense, and pretending both of us are in charge. (we are not.)

happy cat dad day. the girls love you. probably. hard to say. they are cats. 🤷🏻‍♀️ @djentlethaller love youuu

When this band first started, we asked Luke if he wanted to join us to sing a song with us as a guest—one night only.

He said yes, but only on one condition. That condition was that he sings Escape From the City from Sonic Adventure 2.

Today that legendary cover arrives on streaming platforms everywhere you stream music.

So, instead of waiting a few weeks for the EP, what if we just dropped a new cover right now?

Dragon Ball Super’s “Chozetsu Dynamic!” is streaming everywhere RIGHT now featuring our lead vocalist, @l2cmusic.

It’s wild to have so much history but not have a song released yet featuring Luke considering how integral of a piece to all of this he really is. After the debut Hard Rock show, when Luke officially joined the band, he showed up with three things…

Sunglasses, a windbreaker, and a larger than life attitude that outpoured confidence and ego all in one. When we started picking songs for our singers, picking a Dragon Ball tune for Luke was the easiest choice we could make. Which one was the hard part.

We landed on Super’s “Chozetsu Dynamic!” not only because we felt it was the series strongest and most straight forward rock tune, but because both its energy and Luke’s channeled each other. It’s rich in nostalgia, grounded in perseverance, and edged with a dedication to be the greatest, and Luke took the song over as if it was his own.

Releasing this as his first song only made sense, but we’ve gotta dedicate this one to @djentlethaller who put together the track as you hear it now, and his equally talented wife, @ktlynnmrie who brought our mascot, Tsuki, to the world of Akira Toriyama and created this incredible single art.

These two have been our number one supporters, and as Dragon Ball fans we feel both honored and incredibly luckily that they invested their talents into making this cover truly special.

“The Other Side of the Sea” launches May 15th. Singles Chozetsu Dynamic, Smile Bomb, and Hero Too are available now everywhere you listen to music!

🌊 THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SEA 🌊

We are incredibly excited to announce that our debut EP release is on the horizon.

“The Other Side of the Sea” is a love letter to the anime songs that crossed the Pacific, consisting of eight English adaptations & OSTs that introduced entire generations to their favorite series. These are the songs that aired on Western television, soundtracked Saturday mornings, and helped anime find its footing on this side of the ocean.

Spanning decades of iconic series, this EP brings these songs together for a journey back to our youth to remind us where our stories began. Available everywhere on May 15th, the tracklist includes:

1. Hero Too (My Hero Academia) - ft. @wegmills
2. Rock The Dragon (Dragon Ball Z) - ft. @l2cmusic
3. Chozetsu Dynamic! (Dragon Ball Super) - ft. @l2cmusic
4. Closer (Naruto: Shippuden) - ft. @shanexturner
5. Zenzenzense (Your Name) - ft. @tonygregory_sw
6. Tonight, Tonight, Tonight (Bleach) - ft. @l2cmusic
7. Smile Bomb (YuYu Hakusho) - ft. @wegmills
8. Gotta Catch ‘em All (Pokemon Theme) - ft. @shanexturner
