I have some variation of this conversation with my clients, patients, and friends very frequently - and it’s one I wish I knew heading into my own motherhood journey and parenting season of life. People said it but I guess I just couldn’t believe it to be true. But you really do expand. Just as we expand to make the baby, our hearts and circumstances follow suite.

Eventually you’ll be done adding babies to the family, but life won’t stop lifing - there will always be other things added to your plate and you’ll rise to those occasions. Sometimes it’s very overwhelming and I’m no stranger to feeling like howwwwwww WHAAAATTTTT!?!? But then a day passes and perspective shifts and mood calms down and maybe hormones too (😎) and boom I’m like okay LFG.

It’s such a demanding chunk of time, early motherhood. And later motherhood. We stretch and bend like Gumby. You can and you will and it’s amazing 🫶🏼

2020 was a wild year.

6 years ago our lives changed forever when we were expecting one baby but welcomed two. I had a normal pregnancy with regular care and an ultrasound the day before labor started -- no detection of multiples. I pushed Silas out breech and 6 minutes later, I gave another light push to what I thought in the birth euphoria moment was the placenta, only to look down and see another baby. 🤯

Nothing can prepare you for what we experienced in those early morning hours as we were thrust into twin life. We're so grateful to the Lord for His protection over them and bringing them safely into the world. If you want to hear my full birth story, I recorded a podcast with @downtobirthshow (episode #240) & @painfreebirth (episode #11) wherever you listen.

Happy birthday to our miracle boys!

As a mama who expirenced a shoulder dystocia with the birth of my son (who was not a textbook “big baby”), I’m so grateful that my midwife had the necessary skills to resolve it quickly and gently. I also believe that the physiological nature of my labor and my freedom of movement allowed for me to be in an optimal position to support the process.
