Praise the Lord!
Attempted my first ever decathlon less than a week after wisdom teeth surgery, with zero experience. I’d say it went pretty well! Met some great people, got out of my comfort zone, and pushed myself!
10/10 would do again

Long time between throwing videos but amongst working, coaching @downunderthrows and all else life entails hammer training has still found a place to exist. 4 consecutive comps with PR’s and a nice jump today to move to #7 in the Commonwealth rankings and #8 Australian All Time

Summer is a common time for athletes’ goals and training to change.

🏃‍♀️ Training volume changes.
🏋️ Recovery demands change.
🏆 Competition goals change.

So why would your nutrition stay exactly the same?

My own nutrition is changing as I go into specific preparation and early competitions looking ahead towards a double decathlon at the end of the summer.

Athletes often make the mistake of using one fueling strategy year-round—even though their training looks completely different during base building, high-volume blocks, competition season, and recovery phases. Common examples of training changes include starting a build-up for cross country or a fall marathon, starting a club team sport season, or transitioning from spring training to summer competitions.

As training demands increase, nutrition needs change too:

🍚 Carbohydrates support training volume and glycogen replenishment

🥩 Protein supports recovery, adaptation, and tissue repair

🥑 Dietary fat helps meet energy needs and supports overall health

The goal isn’t simply to eat more—it’s to fuel strategically for the work you’re doing now.

Ask yourself:

❓ Does my current nutrition match my current training?

Small adjustments in fueling can have a major impact on performance, recovery, and consistency.
