Today is #InternationalDayofTheGirl ! Globally, girls still face HUGE barriers to education, equality and equal access to opportunities.  From participation in sports to safety in public spaces, digital abus3 and AI deepfak3s, period poverty, exclusion from school - and unpaid care duties.  Around the globe, girls spend *significantly* more hours every day on unpaid household chores and caregiving than boys of the same age - not only does this limit free time to play and rest, and be a child - but it also restricts their education, careers and opportunities. So to celebrate International Day of The Girl- I was asked to be a mentor for schoolgirls attending WOW - Women of the World speed mentoring morning on Friday which takes place on the London Eye! The United Nations introduced International Day of the Girl in 2012 to recognise girls’ rights across the world, and WOW has been marking the day for 13 years by bringing 150 students together with 150 incredible mentors for mass Speed Mentoring - which I was lucky enough to be a part of this year. It was an incredible opportunity to come together to talk through ideas, career choices and the joys and challenges of school, home, and beyond in a morning of discussion and connection and for young people to explore their potential. Thanks so much for having me @wowglobal ! #dayofthegirl #dayofthegirlchild #internationaldayofthegirlchild

🧠🥦 World Mental Health Day: The role of nutritional psychiatry This year’s theme is “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.” Nutrition is an important part of the conversation around mental health. Research highlights links between dietary patterns, nutritional status, the gut–brain axis and mental wellbeing. 🥦 Are we considering nutrition in mental health care? 💚 Are we listening to lived experiences? 🌍 Are we addressing food insecurity and inequalities in access to nutritious food? Nutrition is not a cure for mental illness or a replacement for medical or psychological treatment. But it is a really important and often overlooked consideration. We need compassionate, holistic care that considers the whole person, recognises individual needs and ensures lived experience shapes research and practice. This #WorldMentalHealthDay, let’s encourage greater collaboration between nutrition professionals, medics, nurses, mental health practitioners and, most importantly, people with lived experience. How can nutritional psychiatry be better integrated into mental health care? I'd love to hear your thoughts! #WorldMentalHealthDay #NutritionalPsychiatry #MentalHealth #Nutrition LifestyleMedicine

Today I mentored schoolgirls on the London Eye! 🎡📚👩‍🏫 Ahead of #InternationalDayofTheGirl , which takes place this Sunday, I was asked to be a mentor for schoolgirls attending Women of the World’s speed mentoring morning, on the London Eye! Globally, girls still face huge barriers to education, equality and equal access to opportunities.  From participation in sports to safety in public spaces, digital abuse and AI deepfakes, period poverty, exclusion from school - and unpaid care duties.  Around the globe, girls spend significantly more hours every day on unpaid household chores and caregiving than boys of the same age - not only does this limit free time to play and rest, and be a child - but it also restricts their education, careers and opportunities. The United Nations introduced International Day of the Girl in 2012 to recognise girls’ rights across the world, so WOW marked the day by bringing 150 students together with 150 incredible mentors for mass Speed Mentoring - which I was lucky enough to be a part of. It was an incredible opportunity to come together to talk through ideas, career choices and the joys and challenges of school, home, and beyond in a morning of discussion and connection and for young people to explore their potential. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on the @londoneye and @stjohnswaterlooarts for another fantastic WOW Day of the Girl 🎡 We had the best time and were blown away by everyone’s passion, generosity and openness! Right now it feels more important than ever to celebrate girls - their ideas, their ambitions, their joy and their limitless potential - while making sure they have the power, freedom and opportunities to turn those ambitions into reality 💥 Thank you to our Global Founding Partner Bloomberg for their ongoing support and to Clifford Chance whose partnership helped make today happen. 🎥 @chewboyproductions

This morning we took to the skies once more to celebrate Day of the Girl in classic WOW style 🎡 We brought together 150 girls and non-binary young people with 150 incredible mentors from across sport, finance, theatre, medicine, global development, law, media, government and more for WOW Speed Mentoring on the London Eye. As they soared above London, and over so many of the iconic London institutions where generations of girls and women before them have been the pioneers of progress and where so much remains to be improved , the conversations flowed and the aspirations soared too 🤩 📸 @elliekurttzphoto

What a joy to be back mentoring with the amazing WOW Foundation @wowglobal 💥 Spent the morning on the London Eye celebrating International Day of the Girl alongside 150 students and 150 mentors. It honestly makes my heart so full hearing these young women’s ambitions, dreams and the goals they’re working so hard towards 🥹 There’s something really special about sharing our own journeys and experiences with the next generation and hopefully inspiring them to believe in everything they’re capable of. I absolutely love this Charity and everything that it stands for. What a gorgeous, uplifting and empowering morning. Thank you as always for having me @wowglobal 💥

“LONELINESS CAN HAPPEN IN CROWDED ROOMS.” Have you ever felt completely isolated even when you were surrounded by people? When speaker @brandonsaho asks his audiences to stand up if they have ever felt alone in a crowd, nearly 80% of the room stands up. When I sat down with NHS psychiatrist @drallyjaffee on the @hinesightspodcast , we talked about why modern isolation is so painful. Ally reminded us that true connection isn’t about the number of followers you have online or how many people are in the room with you. It is about the depth and quality of your relationships. We need face-to-face conversations, real phone calls, and genuine presence. ADHD is real, it is not under-diagnosed, and whilst the media is currently so focused on the many problems that ADHD causes people, can I remind you also that it is often part of the reason for your very best and most beautiful traits!! ADHD is part of why I have over 100 unread WhatsApp chats (sorry, guys...), but it's also part of why I'm a freaking channel swimmer and Doctor of Engineering💁‍♀️ I forgot to add a pic recommending GOOD and INFORMED info sources/perspectives on IG so have tagged on the first slide! (And no, I didn't forget BC ADHD, I forgot because it's 22:35😴) but extra shout out to @josephineperry76 deserved because she just wrote a whole book about ADHD in sport!! Something I frankly just ran out of energy to address in this post. But she does a better job anyway 🤩 *caveats: I have not watched the Channel 4 doc (and reviews from people I trust mean I'm probably not going to either) I am a Doctor of Engineering, not medicine. I know how to read and analyse research, I'm confident on my stats, but I obviously have not covered every nuance here! This is not a "complete guide", this is one frustrated woman sat behind a keyboard putting their lived experience and research experience to attempt to remind anyone who might be feeling a bit pants because of the media this week that you are valid and important and loved, and there's a lot of unhelpful discourse flying around right now, but just because there's a lot of it, it *doesn't make it true* x pinky yellow background. title reads: The “great ADHD myth”? I’ll give you great ADHD myths (and stats, and where you can make your voice heard...) Because I know sometimes ADHD might look like this, but it also looks like this. The first "this" has an arrow pointing to amber in bed with eyes closed, the second "this" points to amber on PhD graduation day holding a medal from the university and a medal from swimming the english channel.
