POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This week we speak with Jay, a union organizer in the UK hospitality industry that is notoriously hostile to collective action. But first, Nate, Hussein and November talk 'Super Intelligence', Grok waxing poetic and hawkish by turns, and Trump's ever expanding horizon of semiotic warfare.

Legal AI tech is a booming industry and apparently the surest way to market it is to convince lawyers that they will get to be the cool guy in “Suits." We're not making this up.

Will Gluck has managed to make a movie that pleases no one but, despite its outward appearances, he's also made a film about how it’s better to wait for marriage and enjoy a quirky existence under…biofascism? We’re not exaggerating.

We've brought on friend of the show Charles Star to discuss Trump’s single-minded obsession with his ballroom and its...unusual dimensions.

This week on Trashfuture, Gareth Dennis joins us to discuss the future of Great British Railways, plus a deeply cryptic AI-for-British-Rail pamphlet, and our theory that we can only save the UK economy by building Ultra-Manchester (which includes a Mound).

This week on Trashfuture, we're talking about the campaign to block Palantir from working with the NHS... but we also make time to discuss a man so dedicated to anime that he's accused of terrorism.

On this week's free episode of Trashfuture, we've invited friend of the show Séamus Malekafzali on to explain whether or not the Strait of Hormuz is open, and why the only people who seem to have any real plan for the future are the scammers on prediction market platforms.

For this week’s free Trashfuture episode, we welcome @gregkfoley of the @bloodworkshow podcast to discuss the far-right bacchanal in the aftermath of Henry Nowak’s murder, and the ever-present Europhile cosplay of Elon Musk and co. Starting to seem like weird Americans with crusader fixations are incoherently baying for blood.

It’s been a pleasure to share Find A Way To Hate It with you all, particularly now that the album is available in full, and to hear your reactions to something that was, for a long time, a slow and private assemblage of stolen moments and flashes of inspiration. We’re immensely grateful not only that we had the good fortune for all of these fragments and reveries to coalesce into something it felt worthwhile to keep pushing for but also to everyone who helped us out along the way. To @boeck_kner for his encouragement and support in production, Jake Skinner’s assistance at @brighton_road_recording_studio, @indysagoo for documenting us as we worked to bring this all to life, and @theoenus for knitting together visually tenderness and terror we wanted to give a voice to. None of this would have been possible without your help, or without the interest and reaction of you, the listeners. Thank you.

We’re Second Homes, @draussenistfeindlich and @sapheen.istan, and there’s more to come. Be sure to check out the full album on our bandcamp, linked in the bio.

“Some of these songs took a long time to assemble, but ‘Hate It’ was probably one of the quickest,” Nate remarks, “and it’s the one that I think has come to matter the most to me. It’s impossible to see children in peril, on the news - anywhere - and not immediately think of my own child. The guitar part Saph came up with during recording really changed the whole mood of the track for the better. I almost didn’t recognize it, but it meant more, somehow.”

We’re Second Homes, and our debut album, Find A Way To Hate It, releases in full today. We’re so grateful for your support, interest, and encouragement, and we really hope you enjoy the rest of the tracks, which are available now on our bandcamp. Second Homes is @draussenistfeindlich and @sapheen.istan. The album was produced by @boec_kner and recorded independently at @brighton_road_recording_studio with the assistance of the wonderful Jake Skinner. Thanks to @theoenus for the visuals, to @indysagoo for video and photography of the recording sessions, and to everyone along the way who helped make this album a reality.

“Bite the Counters was one of the first songs we worked on together, but we almost didn’t record it,” Sapheen recalls. “We were running out of time in the studio and decided it would be better to prioritise finishing the other tracks over starting a new one. Once we got home, Nate decided to bring it back to life and recorded a bed track with the drums and synth sounds. It sounded amazing. I layered some guitars onto it in my living room and all we had to do was return to Jake’s studio to mix and record vocals. I’m really proud of it. It started out as a boring guitar song and ended up somewhere between The Knife and Electronic. Now it’s one of my favourites.”

You can listen to the full track, as well as four others, on our bandcamp. We’re Second Homes, and our debut album, Find A Way To Hate It is available for digital pre-order now via the link in our bio, and releases in full on the 5th of May. Second Homes is @draussenistfeindlich and @sapheen.istan. The album was produced by @boec_kner, and recorded independently at @brighton_road_recording_studio with the assistance of the wonderful Jake Skinner. Visuals by @theoenus

Here, a bit of behind the scenes content also happens to include a little taste of ‘25’, one of the tracks that isn’t up on bandcamp yet, with our friend and producer Dan Boeckner in the foreground and Sapheen on guitar. As we’re leading up to the launch of the album we wanted to make sure we properly thanked everyone who helped us bring our ideas to life. Jake’s studio is an absolute gem, and Jake’s an exceptional engineer and drummer. He’s got an incredibly open mind about how a song is going to sound, or how to go about recording it, and at the same time he has this profound expertise in every aspect of the process. It’s not an exaggeration to say that Jake pretty much singlehandedly runs a world-class operation. We tracked the record in ten days and mixed it in seven, and there was never a moment where I worried that we might not be able to pull it off. We all worked really hard, but man, Jake was so critical to the process in a uniformly positive way.
We’re Second Homes, and our debut album, Find A Way To Hate It is available for digital pre-order now via the bandcamp link in our bio, where you can also listen to five of the tracks. Second Homes is @draussenistfeindlich and @sapheen.istan. The album was produced by @boec_kner and recorded independently at @brighton_road_recording_studio with the assistance of the wonderful Jake Skinner. Additional thanks to @indysagoo for the studio recordings and photography.
